If we were to drop the monarchy, there's no reason to think we'd abandon the Westminster system of government. Presumably, we would do what Barbados did when they switched to a Parliamentary Republic late last year. Their Head of State switched from being the Governor General, appointed by the Queen at the recommendation of the Prime Minister to the President, who is elected by the Parliament. In fact, the first President of Barbados was the last Governor General of Barbados.
Figurehead Presidents then to interfere in politics more than Constitutional Monarchs and that includes Presidents that are indirectly elected through legislatures.

There's also value keeping a bunch of necessary but potentially authoritarian powers in the hands of those who don't have any democratic legitimacy. For example the current governing party of Barbados holds 29 out of 30 seats in the lower house. There's a clear risk of democratic backsliding there.

Putting politicians on currency is dumb to begin with, with the exception of maybe someone like George Washington who was a founder of the state and doesn't really represent current political affiliations. It's just too polarizing. I don't even see why we need people on currency to begin with. It made sense historically when a monarch would have their image there to prove where the gold came from, but it makes no sense today.

Bills and coins are quickly becoming obsolete anyway.

Personally, I'm thinking of swearing loyalty to a different monarch.

All hail Lord Doge, founder and first supreme overlord of Dogeanica!!!

I’ll bet she would have some incredible stories to tell. What a life!

The idea of monarchy seems outdated in today’s world, but her tireless dedication to public service was admirable. Hopefully Charles inherits her sense of duty.

RIP

I don't have too much in the way of a strong opinion on the Monarchy and her as a Queen one way or another which is rare for me. I will say it just amazes me at how many, mostly men in power probably tried to outsmart or out fox her in some capacity. Like her or not, she saw and experienced every level of political BS ever thrown her way and probably out foxed everybody.

I can just imagine how she reacted in private after seeing and hearing some of these people. Would be fascinating in anyway

What type of outfoxing and out smarting a ceremonial monarch do you think happens? And what are the consequences?

Let's be real, the queen lived a life of privilege and luxury that would seem foreign to commoners like us.

It wasn’t a burn I was just applying your logic to it. Not sure what you’re on about now.

That's probably named after the specific person, rather then the Monarch so I don't think it'll change. I'm curious if HMS Queen Elizabeth gets renamed though, or rededicated to both Queen Elizabeths like the way USS John S. McCain also honored the Senator near the end of his life. As famous as the first one, the reign of QE2 is much more meaningful to modern Britain and it would be more fitting for the flagship of the Royal Navy to be named after her.
