Diez has been eliminated along with Schnur. I saw a tweet earlier today that Sharon Fichman will not be playing doubles as she is recuperating from a shoulder injury.

I think you can quite possibly put Nadal in that category as well. If he can't get a handle on it after already taking significant time off, you know the foot is in big trouble.

I feel more confident in seeing Nadal coming back than the other two. He's had this injury since 2005, in fact he almost had to retire from it in 2005 before Nike created a new shoe to help with the pain. It is a condition which he was born with but it seems to get better with rest. However, nothing is guaranteed as you say.

Sofia Kenin has withdrawn from the US Open as well. Who does that leave as the top American on the women's draw? Gauff? Brady? Pegula?

The ATP has been way too quiet on this story (almost hoping that it would just eventually go away). With these types of serious allegations, there needs to be some kind of investigation, don't you think?

Folks, it looks like TSN5 has Rebecca's qualifying match (watching it on my laptop as they are just warming up).

When you consider what Kyrgios got sanctioned for and how quickly they were willing to suspend Osaka for not talking to the media this is really embarrassing for the entire spirt, and simply not right.

Rebecca breaks to take the opening set 6-2 with a beautiful lob winner after drawing her opponent into the net. Really fine play from the Canadian in that opening set.

Rebecca down a break in set 2, but could have been down a double break save for another rally from love-40 down to hold serve.
Edit: Going to a 3rd set as Bonaventure takes set 2 6-4. Let's go Rebecca!
