I still don't think gaming PCs need more than 16GB RAM. If you're doing video/audio/3d work then yeah defo go 32 or even 64.

Sure 32GB is more "future-proof", but 16GB has been sufficient for 10 years or more.

Have we seen games utilize more than 10GB of RAM yet?

Not to mention that assuming you have the slots, which you probably do, it's incredibly easy to just add an extra DIMM later.

$200 will get both in Trident Z RGB Neo while maintaining CL16 latency.

This is the exact plan. I have always run 16GB with no issues, but if gaming starts to demand it very simple to add another 16GB if needed as the mobo has 4 slots.

This seems to be the difference with everyone I chat with. Lots of people are recommending the 3200 over the 3600, yes there is a slight performance boost but it's not that much. But then some say just do the 3600!

I've heard and have seen benchmark videos (Linus and Gamers Nexus) that suggest DDR4-3600 seems to be the sweet spot, and tightening timings adds to that.

But there is so much variability out there on memory speed vs CAS latency vs tightening memory timings vs what manufacturer dies you are using, etc. I just said screw it and went with 32 GB (4x8GB) of T-Force Delta RGB DDR4-3200 CL16. It was the right price and I'm not building a benchmark queen.

Yeah, I do 3D work and have 32GB DDR4 2400 from my last build 5-6 years ago. The game company I do freelance work for uses 64GB in their machines. We had 16GB at school and that could be painful when multitasking between programs.

I've been contemplating whether I should move up to 64GB or if that's overkill. I know my motherboard supports up to 128GB.

Pretty much. Heavy application work 100% needs a large RAM overhead, otherwise it will chug.

A fast multi-threaded CPU in that instance is never bad either as it will shorten your render times on large projects significantly.

I just want it to depress the value of the CRG9 so I can get a second one...

I think I'll hold off until the Fall.

I'm planning on doing a new build from the ground up once the 3000 series gets released by Nvidia, and that beast would be a nice way to kick it off.

Are you going to use the new stuff, or just wait for it so that the old stuff gets a bit of a price drop?

New stuff, I've never jumped in early on a card before but I'm thinking I'll do it this time (timing lines up for me) - (I'll also be using it to drive a 4K display when I want the resolution).

Been reading rumours that nvidia might not be the top this generation. nvidia might only get 40% bump over a 2080Ti but AMD might get a 60% bump.

Been a long time since I've owned an AMD video card.

I'll believe that when I see it, they still don't have anything that can beat a 1080ti, let alone a 2080. Although if they can get close enough while severely undercutting Nvidia (like what they did to Intel) then they could make some huge gains for this generation

Completely forgot this year is a new generation year for GPUs. Second guessing my recent purchase of the 2070 Super...Now I'm thinking of returning that one and just limping along with my 1060 till the new cards get released.

My upgrades this year have been a 2070 Super as well as a 34" 144hz ultrawide monitor. Other than Borderlands 2 which can max out at 144 I average between 85-105 fps after playing around with settings which is honestly looks fine for me.

After getting my monitor I wondered if I should have got a better card but after looking at prices that quickly changed. 34" seems to be the perfect size for me. I'm surprised though at what games(RE7, A Plague's Tale, .etc) don't support 21:9 and need to be hacked.

^inferno that's where I'm at now. Just looking to crush fps in ultrawide but just at 1080p. What kind of processor do you have? I have a ryzen 7 1700 right now and it does great in certain things but not others.

100 fps is totally fine too. Diminishing returns to the eyes at such high framerates
