Ohhh Rick Hanson, not the man in motion. Thought it was a little insensitive to mention he uses a wheelchair...

Honest question, but why put so many past olympians on the exploratory committee?

Has anyone ever seen Senator Clay Davis and Brian Jean in a room at the same time...

Interesting article on the possibility of the Calgary bid:
http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/...-olympic-games
This excerpt caught my attention:
Quote:
Switzerland is seriously considering a bid, and there’s noise surrounding the possibility in Austria, Germany and Norway. But the vast majority of Olympic journalists and officials polled informally at the world press briefing for the 2018 Pyeongchang Games in November said they believed Calgary would win the 2026 Games if it submitted a bid.

The group exploring the possibility of bidding has a new website: https://www.shouldcalgarybid.com/
There is a survey available too.

There's lots of facility evaluation work that has arisen from this pursuit. Quite exciting, really.

Our odds are exceptionally good at winning a bid too should we go for it.

do it
I am so sick and tired of having to go to Edmonton to see a decent concert
the jackass major can say we aren't missing much all he wants, meanwhile I am spending my entertainment dollars in that dump of a city

Were I to reach the conclusion the Olympics were less about graft and more about athletes, I'd be on board.

Thanks for Update. I just completed the survey. I suggest everyone do the same. I want the Olys again but no matter what your view, take 5 minutes to provide your input.

This.
9 Garth Brooks concerts in 10 days alone skipped Calgary and played Edmonton.
Unfortunately I have to drive up there this weekend and spend my money in that dirty city's economy instead of here in Calgary.
I know Carrie Underwood skipped Calgary for Edmonton and Lady Gaga will do the same in August/September. It's a real issue. It's 2017, this shouldn't be happening in a major city.

Yup, was up there last weekend for the concert and spending my money in Edmonton. Even though the city is still as ugly as ever, their arena makes the Saddledome feel like a community rink.

Interesting to note that also today, Hungary announced that Budapest will be pulling its bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ol...-idUSKBN1610YO
This means that for the second-straight time, there will only be two cities in the final competition for an Olympic bid (Los Angeles and Paris). The same thing happened with the 2022 Winter Games when Oslo pulled out of the bidding after being named one of the three finalists.
The IOC will make the final decision on 2024 in September.
