Definitely a confidence inspiring performance last night. Gonna need that consistently for the first ten games or so until the team gets its feet underneath them.

In addition to playing well I love how he didn't take any of Maroons crap. Pretty embarrassing for the Flames that he seemed to be the only one with any compete or heart. Smith has come exactly as Treliving advertised in the offseason, it's hard for me to not get really excited about him.

Agreed. Right before him we had the PP and I think we put 3 or 4 quick shots on net, but we weren't dangerous. we had 2 shots the entire period before that PP - there was no sustained pressure up front.

I get that we needed to try to win, but pulling the goalie and having Brouwer on the ice and McDavid looking for the hat trick, you just knew what was about to happen.

As bad as last night was I am so happy with Smith's play, for most people that was the biggest question for the team coming into the season - if he plays like that we are going to be a dangerous club.

Love the battle in this guy. And that he's not scared to defend his crease.

Funny. I used to think he was just a hot head. But when he's YOUR hot head the tune changes.

Smith was rock steady. His poise with the puck was something to behold.

If this is the sort of goaltending we get for 55-65 games, this is a 100 point team.

Thank god he looked good!!! I was totally happy with how he performed. If he can do this 50 more times the season will be fine. Just gotta hope the other 20 are for Gillies and Rittich, Lack can look good on the bench!

I think Smith was the only Flame to complete a pass last night

Smith was the best player in a Flames jersey last might. The team hung him out to dry and he still kept it close.

When I first heard we traded him I was stoked! But then I came here and everyone was like he is too old and isn't as good anymore. This was what I thought we were getting at first, totally love it.

Is this what it's like to have goaltending?

It's been so long since Kiprusoff I've honestly forgotten what it feels like. I kind of like it.

Even if the rest of his season performance is just league average, this has been easily worth the acquisition.
