That was just plain dumb. They stuck him on a line with Yakupov as the defacto second line. Sink or swim scenario. He sunk, and they had no choice but to give up on the experiment. They sent him down right before the 40 game mark to save a year of free agency eligibility.
That was typical MacT IMO.
I find the Puljujarvi handling to be more curious. They kept him around the roster but they didn't really need him to perform as they were getting performance elsewhere. They weren't playing him every game. They made a point of keeping him on the roster past the 40 game mark of the season before sending him down which is really strange.
Lemaire did something similar with Brent Burns in Minnesota,. Kept him on the NHL roster the whole season and only played him in 36 games as an 18 year old.
I'm not sure why a team would choose to develop a player like that. It's a shame none of the Oilers reporters have even bothered to ask about the Puljujarvi situation.

Didn't Boston do something similar with Seguin?

I always thought that there was some sort of arrangement made with Puljujarvi to get him to come over to north america. The burning of the fa year was the trade off to get him to play in the AHL.

Agreed, it had to be something like that.

Yeah I'm not at all understanding their move back to navy blue, on top of the gawdy primarily orange jerseys. I actually like orange but that particular shade of it should not be a primary colour. Katz has terrible fashion taste.
Almost surprised he didn't just make the jerseys out of crushed velvet to match his blazers.

Hey Staples has realized the Oilers are thin on the blueline!
Turns out Benning, Nurse and Gryba may not be top four options!

Suddenly that 6th defenseman issue doesn't seem so nasty in Calgary.

this is my favourite part:
"...the Oilers were never lacking a quality replacement because they had eight quality NHL d-men on the roster: Sekera, Kris Russell, Oscar Klefbom, Adam Larsson, Nurse, Matt Benning, Davidson and Eric Gryba."
only in Edmonton is that line up "quality"

I love how they're hyping that Russell looks like a new man in the preseason, we saw that with Russell here he'd have streaks of really great play and then go back to being brain dead.

Are we talking about the same 1/2 of the greatest pairing the Flames have ever had?

I never liked the orange jersey, but what really surprised me with the Adidas launch is why they went with a darker blue and a lighter orange. The contrast really stands out.
Looks like sherbet

We get down on the Flames decisions, but imagine if they got rid of the red jersey and walked out a yellow home option. Then a year later they lightened the yellow from gold to urine.

That's the worst jersey the NHL has ever produced. I get sick to my stomach just looking at it and feel sorry for those who think they are cool when wearing one.

But the adidas colours are the same colours of the Oilers jerseys during the past decade, are they not? I think they all look pretty awful, but there is still some traditional grounding for the colour scheme: it's like a tribute to the halcyon days of Ryan Smyth, Shawn Horcoff, and Eric Brewer.
