Default 2018 NHL Draft

Despite not having a 1st round pick, there's likely still enough interest to have a thread? We're only a few months away from the draft.

Here are a couple of the most recent pre-draft rankings:

https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-dra...ng-march-2018/
March 2nd

1. Rasmus Dahlin - D - 6'2'', 181 lbs
2. Filip Zadina - RW - 6'1'', 196 lbs
3. Andrei Svechnikov - RW - 6'2'', 186 lbs
4. Adam Boqvist - D - 5'11'', 170 lbs
5. Brady Tkachuk - LW - 6'3'', 196 lbs
6. Evan Bouchard - D - 6'2'', 193 lbs
7. Quinn Hughes - D - 5'10'', 174 lbs
8. Barrett Hayton - C - 6'1'', 191 lbs
9. Noah Dobson - D - 6'3'', 180 lbs
10. Oliver Wahlstrom - RW - 6'1'', 205 lbs

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ankings-march/
March 7th

1. Rasmus Dahlin - D - 6'2'', 181 lbs
2. Filip Zadina - RW - 6'1'', 196 lbs
3. Andrei Svechnikov - RW - 6'2'', 186 lbs
4. Brady Tkachuk - LW - 6'3'', 196 lbs
5. Adam Boqvist - D - 5'11'', 170 lbs
6. Noah Dobson - D - 6'3'', 180 lbs
7. Oliver Wahlstrom - RW - 6'1'', 205 lbs
8. Evan Bouchard - D - 6'2'', 193 lbs
9. Quinn Hughes - D - 5'10'', 174 lbs
10. Isac Lundestrom - C - 6'0'' 185 lbs

Both sites showing the same top 5, and generally the same top 10.
What is the general consensus with this draft class? Above or below average?

I can't help but keep an eye on Brady Tkachuk's ranking... and compare it to where the Oilers sit in the reverse standings. That'd be a kick in the nuts to see Matt's brother drafted by the Oilers.

Yeah the big story for me, other than who wins the lottery, is where Tkachuk ends up. Really hope it isn't Edmonton or Vancouver

Frankly seeing the Tkachuk boys go head to head in the BOA a few times a year would be a blast.

I think Matthew is still going to be the better overall player. Even the 2017 - 27th overall pick Shane Bowers is outscoring Brady Tkachuk right now despite both players being freshmen and only a couple months apart in age.

It might be the only thing that could bring back a true BOA. Other than message boards, I still don't get the sense that the players care about it.

Would love to see either:
  • Vancouver pass up on Tkachuk again, only to have him excel elsewhere (preferably the East).
  • Vancouver take Tkachuk after missing out on the other Tkachuk, only to have this one bust.

I'd prefer to see him out east on a team I don't hate. Ottawa or Detroit maybe

I can see Buffalo making a hard push for Tkachuk if they get the 2nd or 3rd overall pick.

This one will be a good draft. I have it behind the 2015 and 2013 one. The top 5 is pretty strong.

So if the Flames miss the playoffs we retain our 2nd rounder... leaving us with pick #42-48th this Summer.

No that’s not right. It’s gone just a matter of to who

Pretty sure the Isles get our 2018 2nd regardless. It’s the 2019/2020 2nd that gets switched if we miss/make the playoffs.

They sure have. Some poster bragged on here about trolling him until he left but can't remember who it was. Sad.

Flames sent their first and second to the Isles. Their third goes to Arizona if they miss the playoffs (and their 2019 second goes to them if they make the playoffs).

Some quick searching of FDW's last posts kind of tell you where to go.

To be fair, he was getting pretty ornery here the past year and a bit, I think he may circle back when the draft gets closer. If not, thats a tough loss as he was valuable in providing good depth on more than just the top end for the casual perusers to read.

And it was really easy to pick up on the condescenion from him. As valuable as he was on draft related stuff, he at times was no better than anyone else.
Just like everyone else, including myself, we all have our moments.
