I'm hoping to move back to Calgary in about 3-5 years. Unfortunately I pay attention to the city like I never left, but as a result, I am also hoping I can close my eyes and by the time I'm ready to move back all of the City Council dysfunctionality, services cuts, and budget woes will all be solved and Cowtown will be in good hands. I hope.

4 Street SE station would be about a block away.

The Pengrowth thing was odd. Really applicable for companies with broad customer base.

Stampede Station revamp and 17th Avenue to continue at grade through into the Stampede grounds.

2 blocks, North end of arena at 12th ave, Green Line station at 10th.

Pedestrians would have to cross 3 streets.

The walk to the revamped Stampede Station on the red line gets a little bit further - hopefully there is a good way to walk through / around the expanded BMO Centre.

Don't forget that Barclays roof is entirely covered in 3 acres of a grass-type plant. Pretty neat.

It was probably cheap as hell when they signed on. They Flames just came off of their worst Dome attendance in history in 99-00, and that was also the summer of the Save The Flames campaign. It was a pretty bleak time for the "brand", so Pengrowth probably got the naming rights for about as low as it gets.

I doubt there was a ton of monetary value there for them, but it was a nice ego boost...especially when 2004 came around.

Also, the whole thing came about after the CEO of Pengrowth asked if he could lease a suite. When told that they were all booked, he asked if the situation would change if he bought the naming rights. The answer, evidently, was yes.

Pengrowth's naming rights was entirely about ego.
