I would rather just keep Frolik and let him play out his contract than take Ferland.

For what it's worth, there are lots of people on Twitter saying that Ferland is currently in Calgary.

I read he was seen in Vancouver too. Who knows what to believe!?!?!
Supposedly there was pictures of him playing in a ball hockey tournament in Calgary yesterday though

I was playing in that encore 4v4 tournament at South Center yesterday and didn't see him around although there were quite a few people and I assume he was in the higher level adult division.

When was Ferland in Vancouver? I would imagine that he was someone the Canucks targeted during the free agency window last week, but I also saw in a few places that conversations between them were over well before Monday.

Doesnt his mother live in Cochrane?
If so it would not be surprising that he spends some of his summer here.

Do these guys actually visit the city they are meeting with? If Ferland is here or in Vancouver, I doubt it’s for face to face negotiations.
Unless he is pulling a Kawhi and asking to meet with Lanny.

We know for certainty that players do. If Ferland was in Vancouver last week it seems quite possible that he was exploring the option of playing there. But I would think that doesn't make as much sense in Calgary—a city he already knows perfectly well.

If you've been following the courting periods the last several years you'd know that yes, that definitely do. Though in Ferland's case it would be a surprise since he was part of the team for four years and organization for eight. He'd certainly be familiar with the city.
Could be something, could just be he's a guy who likes boring ok podunk Calgary

Our sources close to the Toronto Maple Leafs have informed us that the Atlanta Thrashers will be making an offer sheet on Mitch Marner. Believed to be a AAV of $15.5 Million. More news to follow.

They have the cap space, but I don't think they have any draft picks.

HockeyDB should be informed they have the cap space, the picks and are now named the Winnipeg Jets.

Sportsnet has an article about the top remaining UFA’s and mentions the Flames interest in Ferland but they need to move money out first.
This kind of has a similar feel as Russell who was looking for his big contract and seemingly waited for the Flames to make room for him before he signed a 1 year deal with the Oilers late

Dzingel is still out there too, correct? Might not have the money for him, but if the cost was reasonable I'd much prefer him over Ferland. His concussion history scares me.

How is Jake Gardiner not signed yet? I can't imagine Brodie is easy to move until Gardiner decides (albeit different sides).

oh Eklund:
A source yesterday confirmed that Arizona, who has suddenly gotten quite aggressive, has told the NJ Devils of their interest in Taylor Hall, should the Devils and Hall decide to part ways...that is not the most interesting part of this though...
The Devils and Calgary Flames have already, quietly discussed a contingency plan for this scenario...and coming back to NJ as part of the deal would be South Jersey native Johnny Gaudreau.

It better be Hall+... I mean, I like him as a player, but he's 2 years older and on an expiring deal... not likely a good deal.
