What type of proof do you need for a retirement? If players are under cphl contracts but haven't played in a few years are they considered retired?

Erik Karlsson has said playing in Carolina is pretty much retirement, aside from getting together with the boys for the odd shiny game here and there, but what he does confess missing is the competitiveness that playing in meaningful games brings

I Think if the player hasn’t played in two years or more we can say they have retired. But it depends. A guy like David Clarkson isn’t really retired
