Any team that picks him in the top 10 would regret it imo. mid teens or early 20 pick, he could be a good pick but not top 10.

I'm looking for the next Petersson of this draft (steal) and i think it could be Hughes, he's putting better numbers than Makar and he's not getting enough attention.
I've been wondering this for a while. I heard somewhere earlier in the year he was like Matthew but possibly better offensively. But then the numbers say Matthew has been significantly ahead in that category on every level. So I dunno. I figured it's highly unlikely we get him so... meh.

Every category is right.

OP from reddit

Brady's bigger, faster, and meaner, but Matthew's numbers are far better than Brady's at every level they've played.

Matthew and Brady played in different leagues in their draft years, but Matthew's draft year NHLE in the OHL was 51.43, which was right on the mark considering the 51.79 points per 82 games he scored in his rookie NHL season.

Brady's draft year NHLE so far playing for BU is 22.36 (14 points in 19 games).

Brady draft -1 U18 tournament: 7 points in 7 games. 1.00 PPG.
Matthew draft -1 U18 tournament: 12 points in 7 games. 1.71 PPG.

Brady draft -1 USDP National U18 Team: 54 points in 61 games. 1.05 PPG.
Matthew draft -1 USDP National U18 Team: 95 points in 65 games. 1.46 PPG.

Brady draft -1 USNTDP Juniors: 23 points in 24 games. 0.96 PPG.
Matthew draft -1 USNTDP Juniors: 33 points in 24 games. 1.375 PPG.

Brady draft -2 USNTDP U17 Team: 25 points in 55 games. 0.45 PPG.
Matthew draft -2 USNTDP U17 Team: 33 points in 53 games. 0.622 PPG.

Brady draft -2 USNTDP Juniors: 8 points in 32 games. 0.25 PPG.
Matthew draft -2 USNTDP Juniors: 17 points in 31 games. 0.51 PPG.

Brady draft -3 St. Louis AAA Blues U16: 43 points in 33 games. 1.3 PPG.
Matthew draft -3 St. Louis AAA Blues U16: 82 points in 41 games. 2.00 PPG.

Anyone who says Brady is bigger and better or whatever obviously has not watched Matthew play and is overhyping a prospect, which is done every year. Matthew put up godly playoff numbers in the OHL while playing on a bum ankle and was still London’s most clutch player.

Brady is a very good prospect but Matthew was better at the same age. Anyone saying differently does not understand how good Matthew is or just does not like him.

Brady is a very good prospect but he may get picked a few spots too high because of what his brother has done in the NHL.

Yup. Matthew has been better at every single level. Brady is a great prospect and will undoubtedly be an impactful NHLer, but we got the better of the two. He is the best draft pick we've made in ages.

If the Flames somehow got a 5-10 pick and Brady was available, they'd take him

We had the better Regehr even though the worse brother did play for the organization for a few seasons.

I'd say Joe was the better Mullen brother.

Not saying I disagree, but Tanner Pearson had a similar jump in his overage year.

We have the better Gaudreau brother too but the younger bro is nowhere close to the NHL.

In the 4 drafts since Treliving has been here there has always been some action. Either we pick in the top 10 or he trades for a right shot Dman. Based on the cycle we will pick in the top 10 again this year

For perspective I made a list of Flames draft picks in rounds 4, 6, and 7 over the last ten years . These are the only rounds they draft in this year, so I wont list anyone picked in the 5th round. Therefore this list wont include success stories such as Ferland in 2010.

2017:
4. Adam Ruzicka
6. D'Artagnan Joly
7. Filip Sveningsson

2016:
4. Linus Lindstrom
6. Eetu Tuulola
6. Matthew Phillips

2015:
6. Andrew Mangiapane
7. Riley Bruce

2014:
6. Adam Ollas-Mattsson
7. Austin Carroll

2013:
6. Tim Harrison
7. Rushan Rafikov
7. John Gilmour

2012:
4. Brett Kulak
6. Coda Gordon
7. Matt DeBlouw

2011:
4. Johnny Gaudreau
6. Laurent Brossoit

2010:
4. John Ramage
4. Bill Arnold
7. Patrick Holland

2009:
4. Henrik Bjorklund
6. Joni Ortio
7. Gaelan Patterson

2008:
4. Nick Larson
4. T.J. Brodie
6. Ryley Grantham
7. Alexander Deilert

2007:
4. Keith Aulie
7. C.J. Severyn

If the draft went past the top 5 picks and Brady was still around...would the Flames try to trade a D for the player? Brodie?

On one hand, I’m not sure many teams would give up a mid-early 1st rounder for him, but I’m also not sure that an unproven prospect who isn’t top-flight would be the best return for Brodie.

No. The flames aren't in the position to weaken their roster. They have to make trades to strengthen or lateral (weaken one position to improve another) its time to be competitive not trade roster players for picks.
