They were flabbergasted when I said "None", to then owning guns (they both had multiple firearms) was as common as having a phone, and not having a gun was seen as backwards.

Other than that we got along great, but the sad thing is that a few months later one of those guys killed himself with one of his guns. One dark day and he's no longer around because he had such easy access to a loaded firearm. Made me think about how I might not be here right now if the situations were reversed, as I've battled depression in the past. Might not have been able to resist such an easy "solution" sitting in a cabinet or drawer
Bah don’t blame the gun for that. Could have been a rope/knife/pills

I read somewhere that between 15-20% of suicides are spontaneous and a person just snaps, by the time you tie a rope up and around your neck you probably changed your mind, A knife just doesn't seem right and pills seem to slow for a spontaneous suicide.

Ban guns, C-trains and tall balconies...and save lives

It's true, any inconvenience has been proven to drastically decrease suicide.

It's why suicide rates dropped when they changed the gas ovens in Britian.

It's why suicide rates drop when a bridge where people commonly jump off adds a suicide fence. They don't go to the next bridge, they just don't commit suicide.

Removing loaded firearms from the equation reduces suicide.

Might be counter intuitive but humans aren't logical creatures.

Literally every PAL/hunter safety course in Canada goes over stats and evidence of this being incorrect.

Guns are quick, spontaneous, and a hell of a lot less painless than drinking draino.

Publix halts donations to self-described ‘NRA sellout’ amid boycott, ‘die-in’ protests by David Hogg

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.9f508c31f8b2

Quote:
The supermarket chain Publix on Friday announced that it would suspend its political contributions to Adam Putnam, a Republican candidate for Florida governor, after being faced with overwhelming pressure to cut ties with him because of his fierce support for the National Rifle Association.

“We would never knowingly disappoint our customers or the communities we serve,’’ Publix said in a statement Friday. “As a result, we decided earlier this week to suspend corporate-funded political contributions as we reevaluate our giving processes.’’

The announcement came moments before “die-in” protests organized by 18-year-old gun-control activist David Hogg began at several Publix supermarkets, forcing store managers to reroute shoppers around the protesters, who lay on the floors of the aisles. At an Orlando supermarket, store managers fetched grocery items for customers who stood to watch but mostly went on shopping, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

It’s things like this that will eventually cause political action on gun control in America. If what forces change in the US today is buying off politicians than play the game. Form an anti-gun lobby, start collecting money and then “lobbying” (paying off) politicians that support gun control measures.

From any of the numbers I’d seen previously the NRA doesn’t actually spend that much on maintaining the status quo. Just a few million that, if Americans really want change, could easily be scrounged up.

Corporate boycotting like this example too, I’d think goes a long way too.

Devos on school shootings- not looking at guns as a cause of school shootings....WTF? This woman shouldn't be volunteering at a school, never mind being Secretary of Education.

Moral decency isn’t high on this administration’s list of priorities.

Due for another mass shooting any moment now, the last barely registered as a reporteable shooting. It has been a few weeks...

Thoughts and prayers in advance to the victims of an uncontrollable act of nature, until the US government does something about the amount of doors in schools and other public buildings.

Well school is out in the States and has been for the last 10-14 days so that has eliminated one of the main shooting venues.

I mean, in the 50s they were training kids to "duck and cover" from a nebulous threat via Russia.

This is just a much more ####ed up, controllable and ultimately domestic version of that.
