I'm not sure I buy the introverted thing, or that it means less likely to sexually entitled. The pop music business is extraordinarily competitive, and you have to be an ambitious bastard to make it to the top. When that type of ambition is fulfilled, it often inspires monstrous entitlement and narcissism.

Jimmy Page was an introvert. He also kept a 14 year old as a virtual sex slave, until fellow introvert David Bowie stole her away for drug-fueled fun. George Harrison had sex with house guests while his wife was down the hall (he also slept with Ringo's wife). Boy George chained up and beat a guy who came to his place for a photo shoot. Introvert Marilyn Manson rubbed his junk in the face of a security guard. Introvert Bill Wyman married an 18 year he had been 'dating' since she was 14.

And this is just stuff we know about publicly, without any Me Too revelations.

Yeah this stuff definitely goes on in the music business.

I think the difference here is that for the most part, in the music industry most of the sex related things that happen, happen between working musicians, and fans/general public.

There isn't the power dynamic there where young women are forced to work in these uncomfortable situations. Most of the sex stuff in the music industry happens because the fans/groupies are choosing to be in these situations as well. They have the choice to be there with the musicians, and are free to leave. Not the same if you are an employee. You don't have the choice to leave if you want to keep your job.

I doubt they are always free to leave. you don't think more than a few of the girls had second thoughts but couldn't get out of the situation?
who is going to help them?. not crew, that's for sure. bet they 99.9% of the time valued their jobs over some "slut" saying she wanted to go home.
and bet there were a lot of band members and crew having sex with minors and not trying to find out, or even caring if they were 14, 16 or whatever.

Harvey Weinstein, facing rape and other sex charges, posts $1M bail

http://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment...rges-1.4677508

Quote:
Harvey Weinstein was released on $1-million US bail in New York City on Friday, after surrendering to police for rape, criminal sex act and other sex charges stemming from encounters with two women.

The former movie producer, 66, agreed to post the cash bail (bond was set at $10 million US or $1 million US in cash), wear an electronic monitor, surrender his passport, and not travel beyond New York and Connecticut. He left the Manhattan courthouse through a back door.

Weinstein didn't enter a plea, which is common at this stage in a criminal case in New York. Weinstein has consistently denied any allegations of nonconsensual sex.

Benjamin Brafman, Weinstein's lawyer, says he believes his client will ultimately be exonerated.

Yeah I'm sure in some extreme cases women were held against their will, but the majority of the claims in the me too movement are about sexual harassment rather than assault.

I was talking in generalities. A fan attending a concert is free to leave when they wish to leave. The most they lose out on there is the money for the concert ticket. A woman paid to show up daily to work in Morgan Freeman's company can't just up and leave whenever they want without it having a huge impact on their life.

That's why there are more cases in the film industry than the music business IMO.

The President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Paige Patterson, has been "removed" from his position over a recent flood of reports of misogynistic comments and questionable views regarding women (See here, and here). He will be retired to a new position as President Emeritus and Theologian in Residence; he and his wife will be provided with permanent residency on the Seminary Grounds at the newly opened Baptist Heritage Center, which will also house the Pattersons' collections.

In another twist, Patterson before his dismissal retaliated against an outspoken Ph.D. student at his University—having him fired from his job, and revoking his scholarship.

This one is of particular interest to me, since Patterson was instrumental in the purchase of purported Dead Sea Scrolls fragments by SWBTS directly from a well known family of antiquities dealers—with whom he maintains a long-time close friendship. These fragments are unprovenanced, as of yet unpublished, and some of which are suspected forgeries. There are other weird links between misogyny, sexual harassment and trafficking in unprovenanced textual artefacts, and I have a colleague who has been rebuked within the guild for raising questions.
I'm sorry....isnt treating women like crap fairly standard practice for Church-based groups?

The guy seems to be a total POS, but I'm not sure this belongs in the sexual abuse thread. Unless I'm mistaken, I didn't see anything about sexual abuse in the article or victim impact statement.

Rape, abuse, harassment, bad dates. How can we make any progress if we persist with the petty distinctions between these behaviours?

Guy gets 10 years for following his ex wife after breaking into where she was staying, ramming her car repeatedly, shooting her multiple times including in the face, pulling her out of the car window and strangling her, only stopping as police closed in. Because she didn’t reciprocate his feelings of wanting to be together again.

As long as THAT is the sentence, justice for predatory behaviour will always be a ####ing joke to me.

Sorry, don't think a stronger sentence would have dissuaded him regardless. Not to say that he didn't deserve more, just that it didn't matter.

Do you really think the guy would have thought differently if he knew he would get 20 or 30 years instead of only 10 years. The guy was not rational in the first place. Especially when he intended on killing her and would have faced a harsher penalty if he succeeded.

Probably a candidate for dangerous offender status, at least.
