I like No Sweat on Macleod and Heritage. Todd does a great job there.

Thanks I work close by. Have tried out Source by the Carriage House and they seem fine, but might give these guys a try.

Just got my skates done at Sportschek.
Hey players - we can always use a couple of extra shinny players, every Thursday at 3pm at West Hillhurst Arena. $10. Drop-in, no obligation.

Wow, weird to see a thread that I started a decade ago show up again.
I used to get my skates done by Blades (pro shop at Crowchild Arena).

Has one here purchased a Sparx sharpener and what are your thoughts, they look pretty interesting.

I might have to put this into my calendar.
Wait it's ok that I am a horrible player right?

Thanks, so far I haven't needed a sharpening (i can't get over how soft the ice is in the Calgary).
Speaking of that, does anyone have a good resource regarding the differences in sharpenings and how it affects your skating?
IE: best type of sharpening for type of skater?

Question.
My kid says his skates are always better after the first session when they dull down a bit.
Anyone know how to dull down skates. Old timer suggested pulling them along a 2x4 a few times.
This work? Any other suggestions?

I slide my newly sharpened blades back and forth a few times on the thick plastic sheeting most arenas have lining the bottom of the gates to get to the bench. Seems to do the trick.

I'm not very good - a stay at home defenceman, that should stay home!
It's a good group, with all abilities. No drama, just fun.

Ask for a 5/8" hollow (or one size up from whatever you're using). It was life changing for me as I didn't like the bite of a 1/2" hollow (which is typically the default) and would try and dull em up a bit before a game.
