Default RIP: Art Bell - April 13, 2018

I only found out that he had passed away yesterday after watching that John Oliver video of Alex Jones and wondering what kind of influence Art Bell had on those kind of conspiracy theorists and truthers on the fringe who have become more and more emboldened in recent times. Listening to him during my younger years, it was evident that his guests were borderline insane and he was pretty generous and tolerant in giving them leeway to speak their minds in the middle of night about all topics like alien abductions and things.

I remember reading somewhere he stated that he didn't believe in the theories his guests were going on about, and he was just allowing them a place to speak without passing any judgement. Anyway, whenever I found myself up in the wee hours of the night, it was always an entertaining listen.

My 90s nights were filled with Art Bell. He was great fun to listen to. He had great recurring guests like JC and Malachi Martin. I remember listening during New Years 1999 / 2000 with the Y2K scare. Great fun.

I never got into George Norry in the same way.

It was always a good listen when Richard C Hoagland was a guest

Art Bell's conspiracy shows were a lot more "innocent" than now days. I wonder if it would have evolved into the False Flag, crisis actor #### we see today if Noory hadn't of taken over.

Likely it would have. Art basically just let the people run with it, I wonder how he would have reacted to the new breed.

Damn, that sucks. Been listening to his old shows for a while now- purely for entertainment, although he just as often covered legitimate scientific and current event topics.

He did not have a skeptical bone in his body - “so caller, you are an invisible time traveler
from Mars? Tell me more!”

He seemed like a kind man. The show could be entertaining, but too many charlatans appeared to fleece the gullible.

I used to listen to Bell when I suffered from insomnia. Not that I believed anything he broadcasted but it did make for amusing entertainment.

Died on Friday the 13. I called in to the show once. He screens his own calls. We chatted for a while. He suggested I get some help in a way that actually got me help. It's a wild story but Art Bell knew a great deal about people. I still listen to reruns online though it's not at all the same. You just know it's not live from the kingdom of Nye. The episode about his wife's death is quite touching.

I think what scared me the most was the voices from Hell at the bottom of the ocean. I spent many night shifts listening to this show.

This one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Well_to_Hell_hoax

I do remember them playing that clip on C2C a lot.

And then there was the Mel's Hole call-ins that were always interesting and fun to listen to; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel%27s_Hole

Sad news I spent many a night when I was young in bed staying up late listening to Coast to Coast AM. Even when going camping, I would have my walkman and very delicately search the AM frequency for his show, and I would always find it no matter where I was or how weak the signal. By far my favourite radio host.

RIP Mr. Bell.

Mel's hole is a classic. There were websites dedicated to finding it, with search parties and everything. I believe Mel called back a few times, sometimes as a different person.
