Flames Goals Against

Here's how many non-empty-net goals each team has allowed over its past 12 games:

Code:
New York Islanders	21
Vancouver Canucks	26
Colorado Avalanche	27
Florida Panthers	29
St Louis Blues 29
New York Rangers	30
Detroit Red Wings	32
Nashville Predators	32
Boston Bruins 33
Los Angeles Kings	33
Pittsburgh Penguins	34
Vegas Golden Knights	34
Anaheim Ducks 35
Carolina Hurricanes	35
Washington Capitals	35
Ottawa Senators 36
Tampa Bay Lightning	36
Toronto Maple Leafs	36
Minnesota Wild 37
Winnipeg Jets 37
Chicago Blackhawks	39
Buffalo Sabres 41
Seattle Kraken 41
Philadelphia Flyers	42
Calgary Flames 43
Dallas Stars 43
New Jersey Devils	44
San Jose Sharks 44
Arizona Coyotes 45
Columbus Blue Jackets	46
Edmonton Oilers 47
Montreal Canadiens	47
The Flames are 25th on this list. Only 6 teams have allowed more goals over their last 12 games. For a Darryl Sutter coached team, this is very uncharacteristic. Say what you will about secondary scoring and lack of timely goals, but the main reason for this team's recent 3-8-1 stretch is their inability to keep the puck out of the net.

Goaltending needs to be better. Checking needs to be better. Assignment responsibility needs to be better. Everyone's 200 foot game needs to be better.

Definitely a tough stretch. The bermuda triangle road trip probably didn’t help.

The Flames are third overall in goals against this season with 93. Only the Hurricanes and Islanders have less goals against, both with 91.

In a season like this, being third and playing nine less games is about as impressive as nothing. I guess if they allow 0 goals in each of the next 9 games they can claw their way back to being a top defensive team.

Uh, Flames are 4th in goals against per game... Calgary has played more games than the Islanders. Canes have played 2 more games not 9

Speaking of terrible posts

double post

Flames do need to get back to their old ways but if you take the worst 10 games of any team they are going to have terrible stats...Flames are currently in their worst stretch of the year. Just happens to correspond with the entire team getting covid and barely playing games

Also the hardest road trip of the season

And where are the islanders per game? Flames GAA has added a full half goal in the last 12 games. I didnt fact check anything. How are the islanders even doing this season? The poster commented using vague cherry picked trash stats. Hence the vague ####ty rebuttle.

Stats ultimately don’t matter that much. They paint a picture and might point to issues. But wins and points are all that really matter.

They have to figure out how to finish games. They had the Oilers and let them hang around. Then started taking penalties. Not a good strategy vs that team.

They have a lot of games at hand and have played a ton of road games. Ultimately they control their own fate. But they have to start playing smarter and more consistently.

I still think they are in a good spot.

lol I noticed...you called someone out and were TOTALLY wrong
just admit it and move on

Flames don't need 9 straight shutouts to be a top defensive team, they already are top 4 right now

This is a Sutter-coached team, and its identity is keeping goals against down to win games. It's very challenging for this team to win when they allow more than 3 goals against on any given night. These guys need to get back to what made them successful in the early part of the season.

Sutter talked about his important metrics and rankings in categories like goals against today.

Interesting to note they need to be top 15 in some and top 10 in others.

Wrote about it here ... https://calgaryhockeynow.com/calgary...t-louis-blues/
