This one hurts, I still remember listening to Bat out of Hell 2 on cassette. One of my all time favourites, he was so unique and in a class all by himself.

((Didn't see this thread first...))

"Though it's cold and lonely in the deep, dark night...I can see Paradise by the dashboard lights!"

This one really hurts, as he was my favorite singer of all time. One of the few I've bothered to see live, even.

May you rest in peace.

One of my favorite songs of his:

We are talking about Meat Loaf right? Maybe it was my generation but wasn't he widely considered a schlocky cheese ball artist? I always remember his rock operas as being unlistenable and then when he was in Fight Club we were all like "haha that's pretty cool". Weird.

In one of my university exams, this announcement was made: "There are fifteen minutes remaining in the exam. Please remain seated until the end of time."

And my brain immediately goes to "so now I'm praying for the end of time" and I had to suppress myself from bursting out laughing in a quiet gymnasium with 2000 exam-writing students in it.

RIP Meat Loaf

We’ll if having one of the greatest selling albums in history doesn’t qualify you as musical royalty not sure what does

Bat out of Hell was always played in our car on any long road trips when we were kids. My dad loved it. He'll be sad today.

I felt I was crapping on Meat Loaf a bit for reminding someone he didn't write his songs.
You saved me by coming into the thread about his death to just be a dick.

Even if he was just an over the top bombastic entertainer (which isn't all he was) he made parts of my life better and more fun, so I salute him.

I remember my older brothers blasting this record when I was just a kid and how cool I thought the LP cover was, back when I was young enough to think the baseball part was about baseball.

I remember being at parties back in the day and no matter what music you liked, everyone could sing along to Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and did.

I remember the only time I got sick of Bat out of Hell. In 1990 when a cook I worked with only ever brought in the one cassette and on his shifts, played it over and over and over for 2 weeks until someone finally sunk it in the deep fryer.

I remember no matter what movie was on, thinking it was cool when Meat Loaf had a small role in it.

many of us can go on with little stories about him and his music.

Tom Cruise Lip Synching Paradise by the dashboard lights is a highlight. Meat Loaf would've been proud of that one.

Also, his name was Robert Paulson.

The interesting thing I see is how much of an impact he made on early millennials/late gen X - people right around 40 - who were too young to see him when he established himself as a singer. I Would Do Anything For Love and then Fight Club really brought new generations to his music...a little bit like how Bohemian Rhapsody seems to be generations to learn about Queen.

From the title I thought this thread was about a long-overdue bowel movement.

Posted in the other thread, but he was a huge part of my childhood as I had my uncle’s old CD collection. Eagles, Meat Loaf among a few, we’re definitely my go to.

RIP
