I thought I would post here. Most people from my generation will smile when they hear the name Mad Magazine. It was the ultimate comedy rag in easy reading and always slightly risque and certainly way out there
From their movie parodies, to that folding back page, It gave us Spy vs Spy, Alfred E Newman, the little margin cartoons by Sergio Aragones, and the brilliance of Don Martin.
While at some point you move beyond Mad Magazine, you always will remember when the new editions came out and you and your friends would huddle around to read it.

I used to love those magazines growing up! Can't remember when exactly I stopped reading them. Totally remember the Spy vs Spy comic but completely forgot about that amazing fold-in page.
"I need to clarify the MAD rumors: MAD isn't shutting down but is only leaving the newsstand and will be sold to the direct market," DeGrand tweeted on Wednesday evening. "The best thing to do is buy MAD and support it as much as possible, it's not going away!"
It just won't be on magazine racks anymore.

Nice. Maybe I'll get a subscription just for old times sake
"DC Entertainment will reportedly shift later this year to repackaging old content with new covers, running new pieces only in the end-of-year specials."
DC Comics renumbered and reformatted MAD last year in an attempt to rejuvenate sales. I guess it didn't work. DC did the same for Vertigo and shut them down this year as well. I don't have a lot of confidence in them.

The shocking thing to me is that it was still around.
I'm surprised it is still around as well. I remember staying up late as a kid watching MadTV although it was never as good as SNL especially because SNL was essentially at it's prime at that point. MadTV was way over the top though.
I received the Mad Magazine Fold-In Collection 1964-2010 books for Christmas one year and it's fantastic. Not sure if it's still in print. The folding back cover was my favourite part of the magazine.
