k, no problem. I think there's a high chance Voracek officially retires this summer anyway once his NHL contract ends (I mean, he's coaching in Czechia and everybody knows he's done, but since he's LTIRed, he just hasn't said the words) and I can get rid of him then, but thought I could proactively kick him to the curb now.

Do you need to waive a player before you release him?

If you want the buyout to be set at the AHL% yes.

This will be applied to next season's cap since you have played your last game.

It's because otherwise the buyout doesn't matter. You are getting the benefit of releasing the player for no financial cost.

Am I allowed to call up and send down players to create cheese space after the last game of the season?

Sure. As long as you are still cap compliant.

But I don't see the difference. I can send down players that were on my roster and in my lineup after my last game creating $2.7 mil more cap. I now can trade $3 mil cheese for cheese next year which basically is gaining financially next year for no cost this year as my season is over.

If I buyout Stanley now, I'd still be cap compliant.

Just my thoughts, I'm ok with it as is but IMO these 2 scenarios are the same thing. Cap manipulations post-game 82.

It's basically to make sure that contracts have value. If you can buy out a contract after the season is over, then there is no such thing as a 'bad contract'. There would be no impact.

The first case requires you to find a buyer for that cap. Seems like right now there is plenty of cap available and not many looking to buy it.

In the second case you can do that on your own, and the financial cost of the buyout doesn't impact you at all. You got the full use of the player, and got out of the contract for nothing.

Makes sense. Still think a roster freeze after game 82 makes sense but the rules say I can do it so I might as well take advantage of it.
