Pass on the whole list. I like Greiss and any other year I’d say sign him as a 1A/1B and maybe he’ll force his way into a #1 but this year I’m content with another year of Rittich/Talbot.

I can see Hall signing in CGY, and Vatanen as the bridesmaid pick when we lose out on Pietrangelo to Boston.
After that, I think CGY signs 1 of Virtanen or Ryan.
They trade for a goalie.

The RW options are very slim. Anybody know much about Craig Smith out of Nashville??

I was thinking that it would be easier for you to edit actually, I always find editing one box is easier than editing a line where you have to add/remove text, or removing a row/column, compared to deleting a line.
I do also think spreadsheets are always easier to read though. But, I'm the kind of guys whose budget spreadsheet is multiple tabs with an overview page first
If you want to discuss it, shoot me a PM, if you are good as is, do your thing and I appreciate the work you are putting in.

Smith is going to be looking for a 3-5 year deal and currently makes 4.25M which means he's going to be expecting the same if not more. This is the type of contract the Flames simply cant afford.
Use current assets to address this via Trade/Draft etc.
Heck I'd rather give Gawdin a shot at RW and save the 4.25M+ because he's going to slot in as a 3rd/4th liner at best.
|
I really doubt Smith is going to be seeking more than his current contract. When he signed this deal was was coming off 47 goals and 96 points over the previous two seasons and was just 24, with 4 seasons under his belt. He was expected to continue to develop a little more offensively, but he didn't, he only had 1 more season on par with those years and the rest were slightly lower.
He's an excellent two-way player, who uses linemates effectively. He more 2016 Frolik than Brouwer.
I suspect Craig Smith gets 2-4 years in the 3-3.5m range.

I think I'm probably fooling myself, but I can imagine the Flames landing all 3 of the top 3. out of the competing teams, the Flames seem to be in a great position with cap space, not only what they already have, but what they could make available too. The only bad contract on the team is Lucic.
Hall, Pietrangelo, and Markstrom would make this team incredible. Hopefully, they keep Gaudreau, at least until his contract expires, and just make a run for it.

I do love spreadsheets. The only thing is I don't really want to update the list in two different places. It just feels natural to me to do it the way that I'm doing it right now but I really appreciate it.

Scored 144 goals over the last 7 seasons. Drives offensive play extremely well. I've seen Frolik comparisons but the difference to me is the Flames traded Frolik when he was 31, and Smith is 31 now.
He's a good player but I'm not sure if he's worth the contract he'll get. I'm scared he'll turn into a Brouwer.
I personally would prefer Namestnikov or Granlund.

Smith is good for 20-25 goals, 40-45 points. He's listed as C/RW but he's a RW and isn't very good at draws. He's a very good two-way player, but for some reason has never been used on the PK

It seems like the Flames are pretty set on getting a power play specialist defenseman.
They can still re-sign Gustafsson and Brodie, but Barrie, Krug, Vatanen and Schultz are available. Plus there have been rumors for guys like Deangelo, Dumba, and OEL.
No shortage of options on this end.

At his age he's looking at his last "big" contract both in terms of years and AAV. (He's 31 after all, doesn't fit the Flames core honestly and would need to be protected)
I don't believe for a second he takes any less than 4M, and term he'll be wanting 4-5 years.
I personally wouldn't even sign him for 4 x 3.5 to play on our 3rd line but assume you would?
I feel we need to invest into point producing top 6 players/top 4D with our cap space, use the farm and prospects to round out the bottom 6.
Again this has ALL the makings of Brouwer 2.0 in my mind.

All good, I wasn't sure if this site could embed google drive documents like some other message boards can, which would result in only editing in a single place.

Honestly I'm at the point where I'm not sure I want them in on Hall or Pietrangelo. Paying long term UFA money for guys that are almost 30 never seems to work out well.
I'd rather we go bargain shopping and the names above are guys that I thikn could fit a need.
Really the shopping list to me is just getting one of the RHD signed to a reasonable deal.

I never suggested the FLames should go after him. But you are going to be wrong about his contract, in the current financial climate he is the exact kind of guy who is going to get pinched, I think even my figures are probably high.

DeMelo would be a great grab. Terrific defensive defenseman who I think would look great next to Giordano.
Also wouldn't hate taking a cheap flier on Ceci as the 6.

I don't see Gus or Brodie being back, last I heard Gus and the Flames weren't even talking after a report that Gus's demands were quite lofty. I also don't think Brodie will be back, I feel like he'd have already signed and there haven't even been rumors of tehm even talking as far as I know.
I could see Schultz on a bargain contract as a reclamation project because between injuries and a lack of production, he has not been good for a couple seasons and even then, I'd argue he really only was good for 1 year (and post-deadline after the trade) after leaving Edmonton.
Barrie on the other hand, even in a bad year, he still was good offensively and when we face him and the Avs in the playoffs, he was very much a catalyst for their transition game and an impact player.

That's fair, we'll see soon enough!
The only way I see him taking anywhere in the 3-3.5M range is on a 1 year Covid Deal.
Otherwise we can agree to disagree and I'm sticking with 4 x 4 at a minimum.

This is where I'm at too.
Preference on that list is actually DeMelo who could be a great value signing.
If not I'd be okay with Ceci on the cheap as the third pair RH option.

I think signing DeMelo could be a great move, but I'd prefer him in a 4/5 role. But him at maybe 3x3, would give us great death and he's good enough that Seattle might just go after him and not a prospect.

Ceci is a guy, like Borocop that makes me wonder what he'll get as a UFA. I think we all know Ceci takes a cut, but how much exaclty?
