You're not exactly wrong. Without England, there's no football, thus no World Cup of football, and thus no Panama at the World Cup of football. England taketh away, but England giveth first.
If you can have one superstar, world class player, it's difficult to stick him in the 9 spot. You need someone to feed him the ball, and Poland hasn't been able to do it. I'd rather have a dominant mid fielder like Modric who can dictate play and feed great chances to average strikers who can make hay.
^^I wouldn't say it was a beauty free kick so much as it was poor defending/goalkeeping. Russia either getting exposed or the doping is wearing off, but with either Spain or Portugal next, they're gonna have to up the doping to Herculean levels.

Taking off Cheryshev when you're down two goals and a man seems like it can't the be the right decision. You're already qualified so you might as well go for it, as improbable as a draw may be.
He got it around the wall and into the bottom corner. What more do you want?
The goalie to know that's the only place you can go (he didn't) and your defender to not clear a path by taking Cavani out (he did). Still had to score sure, but he's a world class player, they made about as easy for him as they possibly could.

The Saudi-Egypt game is pretty fun but farcical at the end of the 1st half.
The Saudis got a penalty at '41 that was saved by Egypt's 45 year old goalkeeper. Then at '45 they got another penalty that took VAR 7 minutes to determine! And it wasn't as close to a penalty as some of the other ones that didn't even go to VAR. It's 1-1

It was still a perfect shot. If you think that shouldn't have been a goal you're basically saying it should be impossible to directly score from a free kick just outside the box.
Well if the defender stays in place, Suarez hits the wall. It's a nice strike, but it's not a goal without terrible defending. From that distance it usually is impossible to score because the wall is too close to the goalie, except, you know, when the defender inexplicably breaks from the wall.

as was said above, the chance of the ball going over the wall and back down again is rare so why defend it. if it happens then tip your hat. make sure you are defending your side of the goal.

Yup. That may have been a bad bit of defending by the wall, why was that Russian pushing people out of the way?
But Akinfeev should have that. Its all Suarez has to shoot at and he was right there, he never even went for it, just watched it sail by. Terrible defending and goalkeeping.
