I've been fortunate enough to attend 4 Grey Cups (2 in Calgary and 2 in Edmonton) and it's always a blast, but I've never been able to cheer on the Stamps for one. Hope I get to do that some day. Those of you that are going, have a great time and enjoy the party!

Go Stamps Go!

I have memories of my dad going to the 1971 Grey Cup game in Vancouver where they had the famous "Argo Bounce" that helps the Stamps win. I made him a Go Stamps Go sign on a piece of cardboard and stapled it to a cut off hockey stick. He stuck it in his suitcase and had someone take a pic of him with the sign. Sadly that pic was lost in the flood of 2013.

For added triva, Stamps reciever Rudy Linterman was my assistant manager when I worked for Safeway in the early 80's. One lunch break he comes up behind me in the parking lot and lift me above his head and spin me around a few times before setting me down.

Blow up that graphic, print it out and put it in a prominent location in the Stamps dressing room at TD Place.

Boo!

For a second Grey Cup in a row, there won’t be a horse galloping the sidelines to celebrate Stampeder touchdowns.

The long-standing Calgary tradition has been banned under a CFL policy against living mascots on the sidelines of the Grey Cup.

So they can have people cutting wood with a chainsaw in Ottawa on the sidelines during the game but they can’t have a horse walking around the end zone for ten seconds sighting safety concerns?

I get it when it comes to the sidelines...one side is quite narrow, and I believe both teams are on the same side on the other, just divided on either side of the 55.

But they can have the horse milling about behind the endzone no problem, in my expert opinion.

The temporary Grey Cup seating has taken away most of the extra space by the end zones.

Nervous about the game on sunday, moreso than the West Final. Even though I hate the Eskimos and everything they stand for, they're at least a good team with an awesome QB. I respect them. All the teams in the East, as they have been the last few years, are bad to mediocre but somehow the stamps seem to find a way to lose to them more often than not. Whenever the Eskimos or Riders make it to the Grey Cup they usually beat down the Hamilton's and Ottawa's of the world.

I said it before the season, during the season, and before sundays game: I would rather get blown out in the West Final at home by 50, than lose to whatever garbage .500 team eventually emerges from the East in the Grey Cup. I physically cannot take another loss to any of these chumps, 2012 hurt but last year losing to an 8-9-1 expansion team was one of my top 3 painful sport losses up there with 2004 Flames SCF game 6 and 2006 Flames WQF game 7.

Although nervous, I share other's optimism that the Stamps are taking this game more seriously this year and I think the 3 game skid at the end of the year really humbled and focused the team.

On Friday, Rod Kurtz, host of CBC Edmonton's Radio Active made a wager on the game with Doug Dirks, host of CBC Calgary's The Homestretch. The losing city's host had to sing the other team's fight song on-air.

The Stampeders pulled out a 32-28 win in Calgary after a questionable call by Edmonton head coach Jason Maas to kick a field goal while the team was down seven points with two minutes left in the game.

A man of his word, Kurtz performed the fight song on Monday — much to the delight (or chagrin) of listeners.

Not about to totally admit defeat, Kurtz slipped in one dig ahead of the Grey Cup match between the Stamps and the Toronto Argonauts.

"There's not a chance that you'll beat Ricky Ray," Kurtz sang about the Argos' quarterback.

And though the two hosts' teams are rivals, Dave Waddell of The Homestretch said at least they can agree on one thing.

"It's just a good thing that the [Saskatchewan] Roughriders lost," Waddell said.
