So you would rather something like Fantastic Four vs. Infinity war? Marvel franchises have done much better under Disney critically and financially.
This isn't true. Spiderman and Spiderman 2 are the #3 and #4 movies for box office, both domestically and, once adjusted for inflation, internationally. Even Spiderman 3, which was total trash, beat Homecoming at the box office, once adjusted for inflation.
Deadpool also beat all of the Marvel solo movies in the box office, with the exception of Black Panther, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Civil War (debatable if a solo film).
Personally, I'd rather have variety, than have all the heros under Disney's banner. The X-men are a franchise in their own right. I'd rather have movies like Logan, Deadpool, X-men: First Class, etc.. than another 2-3 Marvel films per year. I preferred Logan, Deadpool, and X-men First Class to most MCU films.
This is because Comcast came over the top last week with an all-cash offer of $65 billion. You would think they will come over the top again with another offer. 21CF shareholders must be overjoyed right now.

X-Men and the Avengers have never mixed well together: too many characters and the tone/style/themes between the two groups clashes too much.
FF4 and the Avengers are a perfect match, though.
Yeah, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Disney basically keeps the X-Men Universe and the MCU separate for movies and tv. The Fantastic 4 could definitely use an MCU reboot.
That said, depending on the timing of the merger, it would be a pretty cool post-credits scene in the next Avengers movie to just end it with a shot from behind of a muscular man standing alone. Then, slowly, blades emerge from his fist.
Basically this, but live action...
Spoiler!

Turn up the good, turn down the suck!
There was a rumour that if Disney got FF back Doom would be the villain in the next Black Panther movie. I think the two leaders of opposing countries, with very different rises to power, but similar technological prowess would be a great story. He doesn't need to be in a FF movie.
The XMen movies suck? It's arguably the most consistent (and the longest) superhero film franchise.
Honestly, I would prefer that XMen stays separate of the Avengers universe. I know people want to see Wolverine fight Hulk, but I think there will be benefits to keeping the large universes with unlimited characters separate.
Its the longest, but I would argue that it hasn't been very consistently good.
X-men - Really well done
X2 - Was ok,
Last Stand - was un even and not great
x-men origins Wolverine - was mediocre at best
First class - was ok, had its moments
Wolverine - a whole movie of WTF
Days of Future Past- Dumb
Apocalypse - Terrible, should be flushed
Logan - End the whole series right there, perfect, done.

I think you're horribly underrating X2, First Class, and Days of Future Past. You're also horribly overrating X3 and Xmen Origins: Wolverine. Both of those movies were pure trash.
The X-Men movies are just very inconsistent. Some great and some absolutely terrible.

It looks like Comcast is unlikely to increase its bid for Fox, which would clear the way for the Disney deal (although, it's still likely a year away from actually closing).
