I personally don't think our offensive depth will be good enough this season if we keep Backlund and Frolik on the same line, yeah it's great to have a shut-down line that you can match against other top lines but I'd prefer to see 3 lines that have a chance of scoring every shift. With the 4th line providing energy and at least average 4th line production (something i think that a few of our prospects have a chance of doing).

So anyway, here's what i would love to see accomplished between now and preseason.

Brouwer Play is bought out.
Frolik, Kylington traded in a package for Frk EDIT: Frk is UFA
Perron is signed as a F.A

My lineup prediction/hope for next season:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Perron
Bennet - Backlund - Frk
Mangiapane - Shore - Foo

Frk wasn't qualified, so he's a UFA.....

Why exactly are the Flames giving up 2 quality assets for a UFA?

Yeah i just saw that. Didn't know he was a UFA, my apologies.

I think he's the kind of RW depth that could be moved up and down the lineup until he finds the right fit though. Any thoughts?

All good, I figured they would've signed him too. From what I've read on the Wings board, he's pretty terrible in his own zone, and doesn't have the greatest creativity and vision. But he can shoot the puck. From the way they talk about his game, he sounds pretty similar to Yakupov. I would love to see the Flames take a chance on him for a year and see if he can be a good trigger man in the top 9.

Well lets hope he has a better career trajectory than Yakupov! lol
I'd gladly take the chance on a player with his tools as well, I think playing with someone like Backlund could take care of a lot of the defensive zone mistakes and allow him to get more shots on net (i read on another thread that advanced stats show he doesn't shoot anywhere near as much as he should).

If we did acquire Frk I would still be expecting one additional signing that would bring in a proven PP guy and/or right shooting forward though. My money is on Perron, mostly because i think Neal can choose from many suitors and he's possibly signing his last contract.. I hope I'm wrong though because I think Neal would be an awesome fit here.

Gaudreau - Monahan- Lindholm
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Foo
Bennett - Backlund - Dube (Frolik)
Klimchuk - Lazar - Mangiapane (Brouwer)

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak/Kylington - Andersson (Stone)

Guys in parenthesis () are players I wouldn't mind if they were gone.

I honestly am finding it strange that no one thinks Bennett can play in the top 6. I think with a new coach he hopefully gets an opportunity in the top 6

Gaudreau Mony tkachuk
Bennett backlund lindholm

And I really don’t care about bottom six as long as it’s youth and speed

Detroit re-signed Bertuzzi with a $2.8 million, two-year deal and Frk with a $1.05 million, one-year contract.

I'd like to see Treliving sign both Perron and Vanek... 2 righties to add to the forward mix.

Embaradsing story of the day...I had to Google that it was not still Todd playing there. With the roster they have been running the last few years I had a thought that maybe they kept him around for leadership...

Gaudreau - Monahan- Lindholm
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Foo
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Lazar - Shore- Mangiapane

Hathaway
Brouwer

Will likely be the line up if nothing else changes, but Moses, I hope something does. Because there are a lot of question marks in terms of how well these forwards will produce.

Foo and Mangiapane are still alomost complete unknowns at the NHL level. Lazar should only play a portion of the games, his offence really struggled last season. I like Frolik in a shut down Pk roll he will slot in nicely on either of the bottom two lines.

Sign C Derek Ryan
Sign LW/RW Tobias Rieder

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Bennett - Backlund - Tkachuk
Rieder - Jankowski - Frolik
Lazar - Ryan - Foo
Shore, Brouwer

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone
Andersson

Smith - Rittich

AHL call-up options: Mangiapane, Klimchuk, Hathaway, Dube | Kylington, Valimaki | Gillies.

Not the sexy lineup many fans want, but I can't see the Flames pony up the assets to trade for another top 6 forward and I'd rather sign two good depth forwards than throw a lot of money and term at Neal/JVR etc.

Wotherspoon?

Valimaki for call up. Stone traded for picks after Andersson looks great in camp.

This is what I'm guessing our line up looks like next year. If Janko and Bennett can improve just a bit I think we have a pretty decent top 6.

I put Dube with Backlund and Frolik where rookies seem to do pretty well.

What's up with Wotherspoon anyways? UFA?

I'm sure he can play in the top 6. If he can produce offence in the top 6 is a big question mark.

Don't feel bad, I had to look at the Detroit roster to remember that Frk was in fact not an abbreviation similar to JVR and RoR

I don't disagree that Bennett should play with better players in the top 6. I think the problem is he has to show more, "even when he is not scoring." Hopefully the coaches will give him some real opportunities to grow and become that player he can be. After all he is only 22 there is still lots of room there. I think if there was some way to inject some "chucky" in him he would be alright.

They are talking about putting Tkachuk on the top line (preseason), the guy plays and acts like he wants to win. Chucky has something to his game that Bennett does not quite grasp. Bennett needs to add something to his skill set show some speed, be an agitator but, he seems to withdraw too much when things don't go right. I guess the question is how do we make Sam Bennett more assertive without taking penalties. We need the "playoff Bennett" during the season.
