Dumb question, but are all these city additions known and these are just the official announcements or are we in the dark on how may new teams and where they'll play?

The league is aiming for at least 8 teams for the first season, possibly more. Some cities are confirmed, some are still just rumours.

I think the breakdown is as follows (shermanator can correct me I'm sure):

Confirmed and launched: York 9 (Newmarket?), Cavalry (Calgary), HFX Wanderers (Halifax), Edmonton, Valour (Winnipeg)

Confirmed: Hamilton (Founders?), Victoria, Ottawa Fury?

Rumours: Sherbrooke, Surrey, Saskatoon, Quebec City, Moncton, Kitchener-Waterloo

The more market pairs they can come up with, the better. For both rivalry and cost savings reasons. Calgary-Edmonton, Saskatoon-Winnipeg, Newmarket-KW, etc.

This is pretty much it.

Hamilton is in and will be announced as I mentioned. They were announced by the CSA back in May 2017 when they announced the CPL. The latest update from Victoria is that they are in, but until they move a hydro pole they will have a reduced stadium capacity from 2019 until it is moved (source: https://www.goldstreamgazette.com/sp...g-a-done-deal/) They have been officially announced by the league.

Ottawa is very hush hush given that they are playing in USL as we speak. Everyone seems to think they're in but they have said nothing. The president of USL has actually given his blessing for them to leave USL for CPL. (source: https://the11.ca/usl-president-says-...ts-own-league/)

The latest I've heard on Surrey is that the group that was involved ran into roadblocks with the city and have now given up and gotten involved with the Victoria club. I've also heard Saskatoon is a maybe for 2020.

I think there are other cities that will be in the running for 2020 that will seemingly come out of nowhere.

To get a better idea of the stadiums CPL are working with in most markets, the Wanderers Grounds in Halifax held a test match for Canada / USA rugby this weekend. Over 6000 turned out. I believe the' stadium has to be taken down every year, whereas at Spruce Meadows some of the stands will be more permanent, while others will be set up and removed for show jumping events.

You get a good feel for the stadium in the highlights. Looks like a decent set up to me...

Any chance Wheeldon gives her a chance with Cavalry next year?

I did an interview with the CPL a few weeks ago on the supporters scene in Calgary, and supporting Cavalry. The league just posted the article, so figured I would share it here.

I figured that was you, but didn’t want to put you if you weren’t comfortable with it. Good work though!

Well done, and I hope that you continue to play a pivotal role in the launch of this team. Can't wait for next year when the season starts, to see the team - and the Supporters - in action.

In the picture with that tweet Sherm linked to you can also see a quote intoxicated CofR. The grassroots Supporters Group that Shermanator has created is great and he deserves a huge amount of credit, cannot wait for the new team and what next year has in store for the Foot Soldiers.

Thanks for the kind words!

Hamilton's club was just announced. Forge FC. I think the name is terrible, but better than "Founders FC" which was the rumoured name for months. The logo is okay, I like it better than Edmonton's but not by much. The name won't matter in 9 months when all these clubs will be on the pitch, but I think the CPL's marketing arm is trying a little too hard to be different for the sake of it.

Also, they will tarp off the upper deck sections at Tim Horton's Field to limit capacity to 14000, which should hopefully help atmosphere.

Thanks for the updates!

Which teams are on turf, and which are on grass?

Calgary and Halifax are on grass. Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Victoria and York are on turf. Assuming Ottawa moves from USL they will be on turf as well.

A few more notes from Hamilton's announcement:
- 8 clubs to start is still the public
- Saskatchewan and Quebec are very close to getting clubs. 3 locations in Quebec and there may be more than one club.
- League wants to announce 2 more clubs for 2020. Could be up to 4.
- League is looking outside of cable and to streaming options (brilliant move, IMO).
- Rosters between 23 and 25 players, half of them Canadian, and 6 Canadians on the field at any time.

This may have already been answered earlier in the thread, but what time of year will the CPL season run? How many months long will the season be? How many games? Will there be playoffs, or will the first place team at the end of the regular season win the championship?
