Default Day 4 (PM of Monday Feb 12 - AM of Tuesday Feb 13)

The Bronze Medal Match for the Mixed Double’s Curling begins at 17:05 and will probably be on CBC and TSN. Norway and the Russian team are competing.

The Women’s Halfpipe Final is scheduled to begin at 18:00 and will be on Sportsnet.

At 19:30 the Downhill portion of the Men’s Alpine Combined is slated to begin. Hopefully the weather cooperates. Manuel Osborne-Paradis participates in his 4th Olympic games. Ben Thomsen is in his second Olympics while Jack Crawford and Broderick Thompson are making their Olympic debuts.

The Qualification for the Men’s Halfpipe begins at 21:00 but I’m not sure where it will be televised. Derek Livingston will be the 2nd boarder to go and is the only Canadian in the event.

At 23:00 Men’s Slalom is scheduled to begin.

The Qualification for the Women’s Individual Sprint Classic in Cross Country begins at 01:30 on Sportsnet. Emily Nishikawa who was born in Whitehorse but now lives in Canmore is skiing in her second Olympics for Canada. Dahria Beatty and Cendrine Brown are making their Olympic debuts.

Canada’s Women’s Hockey Team faces a tough opponent in Finland at 00:40 on CBC. Finland defeated Canada at last year’s World Championships but are fresh off of a loss to the USA.

At 02:05 the Qualification for the Men’s Individual Sprint Classic starts on Sportsnet. Alex Harvey is skiing in his 3rd Olympics and had a positive showing in the Skiathlon a few days ago. Lenny Valjas (younger Brother of Kristina Valjas, who represented Canada in Beach Volleyball in Rio), Russell Kennedy, and Jesse Cockney are also scheduled to compete.

The Women’s 500m Short Track competition begins at 03:00, and I’m pretty sure its gonna be on CBC. Marianne St-Gelais races in Heat 1. St-Gelais won a Silver Medal in this event in Vancouver and came in 7th in Sochi. Kim Boutin makes her Olympic debut in the 2nd Heat.

The Heats for the Men’s 1000m Short Track event begin at 03:26 and should be on CBC. Charle Cournoyer races in Heat 2, he finished in 17th in this event in Sochi. Heat 3 has 21 year old Samuel Girard skating for Canada, he finished in 12th at this event in last year’s World Championships but has a Silver Medal from 2016. In the 5th Heat Charles Hamelin skates in an event that he finished 4th in at the Vancouver games.

The 3rd and 4th Runs in the Women’s Luge Singles begins at 03:30, not sure where this will be televised. Alex Gough will be the 3rd slider to go, Kimberly McRae will go 6th, while 18 year old Brooke Apshkrum is scheduled to go 16th. All 3 competitors are from Calgary!

At 04:00 the Quarter Finals for the Women’s Individual Sprint Classic in Cross Country begins on Sportsnet 1. The Semi-Finals should begin at 04:55, with the Final Scheduled for 05:25.

The Men’s 1500m Final in Speed Skating begins at 04:00 and will be on Sportsnet. Ben Donnelly makes his Olympic debut in the 7th pair. Denny Morrison is in the 13th pair looking to improve on the Bronze Medal he won in this event in Sochi. Vincent De Haitre skates in the 17th pair, he finished in 33rd in this event in Sochi.

Canada’s Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris curl for Gold against the Swiss team at 04:05 on TSN4. Canada defeated Switzerland 7-2 in Round Robin play.

The Semi-Final of the Women’s 500m Short Track event is scheduled to begin at 04:11. The Final will take place at 05:07 and both of these will be on CBC. Hopefully St-Gelais and Boutin can both make it to the podium!

The Quarter-Finals for the Men’s Individual Sprint Classic begin on Sportsnet 1 on 04:25, Semi-Final at 05:05, and Final at 05:34.

At 04:32 the Heats for the 5000m Relay in Short Track begin, Canada is in the first heat. This should be on CBC.

The United States takes on Russia in Group A action in the Women’s Hockey Tournament at 05:10. Not sure if or where this will be televised.

I think I’ve got everything, lets hope for another great night! Go Canada!!!

The timezone difference actually works out so well. If you have a 9 to 5pm gig you don't miss anything!

Seems like a jam packed day. Which events would you say that Canada has a good shot to medal?

PS - Really great jobs on the write-up!

I'm really really hoping for Gold in the Curling event! And after everything that Denny Morrison has gone through I will never doubt him

Alex Gough sitting in 3rd through two runs in luge is also set up well to medal. Short Track is a bit of a crap-shoot so St. Gelais and Boutin have a shot there. And Alex Harvey is a contender in the cross country but I don't think this is his best event. I'd also say De Haitre has an outside shot in the 1500m.

Thanks so much for these extremely helpful write-ups, CofR! I'm now recording multiple channels at once on my PVR thanks to the broadcasters flip-flopping stuff so much already.

Shaun White is going to be completing in the half-pipe, correct? Does he stand any chance of winning?

Yes he’ll be competing in the event, he is the current betting favourite at +140

Looking at more betting odds Canada is huge favourites at -908 tonight in the puckline against Finland. Huge favourites for the curling as well at -611. Alex Harvey at +696 in the Sprint is pretty good value though.

Fun Fact:

So far, 4 countries (Germany, Norway, Netherlands and Canada) have won 30 medals, including 11 gold.

All other countries - including the US, China, and the country formerly known as Russia - have won only 24 and 7 respectively.

Obviously it is very early and there have only been a few events. But its still cool to see Canada as one of those countries nonetheless.

I think I might be at fault for Anastasia Bryzgalova's fall right there in the Mixed Doubles Curling Bronze Medal Match.

It happened immediately after I officially declared my love for her.

I think she's falling for me <3

(sorry Slava)

I read completing (sic) as complaining, which he most certainly will be.

I’m actually surprised that doesn’t happen more often in curling

So the Alpine Skiing is gonna be on TSN, the Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe Qualifying will be on TSN4. The Women’s Halfpipe Final will be on CBC as well as Sportsnet 1
