I can respect the fact she's telling her story, but I feel she's still dumb for falling for it.

agree with the posts below as I can see a newcomer to the country falling for it.

also agree that I wish I had that much money as a 23 year old. I wouldn't mock her modest life savings. heck it's more than I have now.

Probably why they had this girl running around to lots of different stores and kept her on the line for 4+ hours. Kept it to 5 gift cards per store or whatever so that the store wouldn't be tipped off and stop her.
I've seen signs at Safeway and London Drugs saying "if you've been asked by someone to buy gift cards to pay a fine, it's a scam"

I like how there is a Youtuber who now makes bank scambaiting these call centres and wasting hours of their time.

It’s not just Pakistani women. China continues to be an absolute hotbed for human rights violations while economic interests grant them impunity.

The Uyghur of China continue to face genocide, with the men being forced into labour camps, the women forced into marriages and their culture systematically destroyed, and it doesn’t even register on the radar.

I hope these stories coming out put pressure on the international community to do something, anything. More than likely, we’ll continue to shrug our shoulders and carry on, because money. Where is that nuke anyway.

God damn this country is still super racist to indigenous peoples. Also VPD continue to demonstrate that they have the most garbage police force in the country. Was handcuffing a 12 year-old girl really necessary?

Maxwell Johnson thought his appointment at the Bank of Montreal would be routine.

He's been a customer since 2014 and wanted to open an account for his 12-year-old granddaughter so he could transfer funds to her electronically when she was on the road for basketball games.

But at the Dec. 20 meeting at BMO's Burrard Street location in downtown Vancouver, an employee questioned the identification he and his granddaughter presented.

"She said the numbers didn't match up what she had on her computer," Johnson said from his home in Bella Bella, a Heiltsuk community located on B.C's Central Coast.

Johnson, 56, and his granddaughter were using government-issued Indian Status cards, his birth certificate and her medical card. He said the employee became suspicious and went upstairs with their cards.

He believes the employee might have been suspicious because he had $30,000 in his account — an amount he and every other member of the Heiltsuk nation received in December from the federal government as part of an Aboriginal rights settlement package.

He says the employee then told them to come upstairs to retrieve their identification. Not long after, they saw police walking toward them.

"They came over and grabbed me and my granddaughter, took us to a police vehicle and handcuffed both of us, told us we were being detained and read us our rights," Johnson said.

This is patently outrageous. I hope him and his lawyer take BMO to the cleaners, and do so in a very public way. The only language these companies speak are money and brand protection.

This is just so messed up. Poor young lady loses her life, facilitated by the ####ed up system that values a violent murderers sexual desires more than the lives of vulnerable women.

I wouldn’t mind a civil and criminal suit brought against whomever isnuktinately responsible for this reckless endangerment.

Yeah, I heard about that story and its pretty reprehensible and lacking in any kind of common sense. Worrying about a violent offender who has problem with woman's sexual needs is disgusting, and allowing him to be alone with her was entirely wrong. Literally heads needs to role on this one, its gross and its wrong, and its criminal.

If he was a "low to moderate" risk of reoffending I would hate to see what they consider a high risk. It just goes to show that we are still not very good at understanding the minds of people with mental issues.

Not all - or even most - violent and predatory people have mental issues.
