Great write up. Unfortunately no stats will mean anything in a last second scramble to tie the game. That’s about mental discipline, rising to the occasion and of course luck.
I don’t really understand your take on Stajan’s comments re: Brodie. How do his comments make sense given he wasn’t moved and his family thinks he wants to stay? Or did Stajan say he wants to stay? I didn’t hear it.

Much appreciated, as always.
Really liked what I saw in my first game watching Forbort. Do the fancy stats back up my impression?

He got fooled on the first Predator goal. He’s a third pairing guy. Keep your expectations low and you won’t be disappointed.

That was an entertaining game with a really, really disappointing ending. My take is that Saros made the saves he had to to give his team a chance, especially with HDCF being 17-9 in the Flames favour. As well as Rittich played, he needed to make that save on the 2nd goal.
I thought the rest of the team played really well, especially the Backlund line. Was impressed at the battle for basically 60 minutes, they deserved better.

Can you clarify how to interpret what you wrote below as I'm confused?
- stajan thinks Brodie is not coming back
-this makes sense because Brodie wasn't traded?
- bingo said Brodie's family suggested Brodie wanted to stay
"Number two was that he doesn’t think TJ Brodie will be back next year. That makes a certain degree of sense given the fact that he’s still here and wasn’t moved, but you just never know.
I was at a road game in Columbus and met a lot of Brodie family members and to a person they felt he wanted to stay"

Didnt someone say on here somewhere that they'd heard Brodie loves it in Calgary and would for sure stay but the weather makes his wifes health issues harder to deal with so he will be moving on.
That makes sense as to why there hasnt been any rumors of extension talks between the team and Brodies camp.

Yeah sorry guys for the confusion ...
Stajan says not coming back. I was somewhat surprised given what his family said.

Was it at the CBJ game at the start of November that you spoke to Brodie's family?

Backlund stepping up and providing solid production from the 2nd line center position is a game changer for the Flames as it's been something missing for some time. The team does look like they are coming together but there's something about this year's team where they keep having mental breakdowns at the worst times. Plenty of games they have played a solid 55 minutes only to have a few minutes where they totally lose their composure usually at the end or beginning of periods. They can move on from this one but could you imagine losing a playoff game this way?

Always glad to have these Game Takes, as they give a balanced view of a game that left me angry and scratching my head
Ending aside, though, this was a very entertaining match.
