It seems like it would've been a far better idea to trade everyone than whatever today has been about.

a forward would have been great, but it's better than nothing. PP needed help and we got some.

Pathetic day. 2 nothing adds that don't move the needle at all. Flames might make the playoffs thanks to the pathetic Pacific division, but won't do any damage whatsoever.

Another wasted year of tire spinning in the mud.

If you were making a run this season, the forward group absolutely needed a boost. Simply because I don't have a ton of faith in Backlund and Mangiapane playing consistently like top sixers the rest of the way. But maybe they'll surprise us.

However, I can absolutely appreciate how Gustafsson coming off a 60 point year can help this power play, and for that palatable price.

Hopefully Forbort helps us on the "prevent" side of our defense.

Edit: Still an enveloping feeling of disappointment after this. How can Treliving look at this forward group and what they did against the Avs, and think that we're fine going down the stretch with the same group, with a moderate improvement from Mangiapane being the only net 'gain' since then?

The only way he can redeem this, this season, is by getting a coach with a strong resume.

I think we overpaid for Forbort and underpaid for Gustafsson.

The Flames were in no position to be big players today. That's on them. I do think however that Gustafsson could be a good piece if we look to re-sign him.

I think, especially at the cost of a 3rd round pick, he's heavily undervalued.

Cheap acquisition costs, and hopefully this boosts our Power Play. Gustafsson sure looked good on the point playing with Kane, hopefully that spark can continue with Gaudreau.

Now we have a bunch of UFA defense men who we will likely lose for nothing.

Failure for BT and co.

Have to think the Flames players are as disappointed as we are.

Very lame deadline. I’ve been a big Tre supporter over the years but I wouldn’t care if he got the axe now. It boggles my mind how he could trade for 2 d-men and not deal another for help up front. Can’t see this team going anywhere this year unfortunately. Man this season has been a giant letdown.

EDIT: I over reacted on saying I don’t care if Tre is axed or not. I am disappointed in him not getting a RW but will wait til his summer moves before I cement my opinion of him.

I guess we could've traded our first for Barclay Goodrow. Prices were insane. Not sure why people expect or even want an impact move when this team clearly isn't a contender.

Keep it for next year when Flames also screw up expiring asset management

He’s proven to be an excellent negotiator when it comes to free agents. His trades have generally been favourable but he hasn’t been great with the deadline or on July 1st. A solid C is about right.

Bled assets for depth pieces again. That's just his MO, and it's why our prospect pool is near the bottom of the league.
This is what I said in another thread and got jumped on by a handful of posters. My worst fears have been realized.

Hey can we get Jokinen to un-retire and come back for the playoffs now?
Get Sutter on the case!

I would have rather no draft picks going out but not going to dwell on these trades as with Brodie and Hamonic not likely re-signing they at least get to take an advanced look at a couple of defensemen that will be on the market in July.

Maybe not the most popular take but personally I think the Flames are going to miss the playoffs ultimately so I am happy the GM didn't make any desperation moves. I'm all about moving on and looking forward to the draft weekend when hopefully some core players are shipped out and the team can move away from the current core of players that just isn't good enough as assembled.

Once again....Mr Almost did....almost nothing. As far as I can see other teams appear to have improved, particularly some we would prefer to stay No Good.
