So much this. He consistently proved he can’t control his temper in the moment on ice = dangerous. Then post games his logic and justifications of his actions show his lack of intelligence = dangerous.

Hot tempered, lack of smarts and perspective, physically capable and uses weapons for a living = disaster waiting to happen.

But apparently it's even *more* reckless to mention this on a hockey forum.

Big stupid idiot does big stupid idiotic thing to the thunderous applause of Edmonton.

Sounds about right.

Oiler fans love this guy. I just don't get it. I was always uneasy with guys like Simon, Marchment, and Bertuzzi on the team. Even when Simon had that run in 2004 I wouldn't say that I was exactly "comfortable" having that guy in red.

I would agree, the thing is with guys like Simon and Bertuzzi that physical element wasnt their primary role anymore and they had skill and hands and could contribute. They could bring grit and use their size to hold the puck and make plays and contribute decent minutes.

You didnt expect or want them to release that 'unhinged' element of their games and for the most part thats what you got.

Marchment was a crazy person though. Wasnt a fan of that experiment at all.

And I liken this back to an article written by an Edmonton 'journalist' back after the initial Tkachuk incident regarding Kassian when they were looking at an extension...they analyzed his production with and without McDavid and its insane. With McDavid his production level is about 2nd or 3rd line winger, without him hes NHL 'replacement' level.

So....sign him up?

On McDavid's wing if you need Kassian's level of production the analysis suggests that you could plug in basically anything with a pulse and get the same result, so Kassian has to bring something else to the equation.

Well guess what ladies and gentlemen.....this is it.

Yeah the " strike while the iron is hot" PR approach that the Oilers (initaiated at a level above the GM and coach) to suddenly sign Kasssian to a long term deal, before the rematch, in some sore of gloating move at the Flames and to show the hockey world, who were already inexplicably meaning towards his side of the ledger, that Kasssian was some legit player, has aged absolutely terribly in less than a month.

Now you've hamstring the team with an severely overvalued contract for the next 4 years...as the Oilers have done before, and certainly since, their run in 2006...and again, doing this in such an abrupt manner clearly was undermining of the people you have in place to make these decisions, who were 100% not on board with that signing, at this time, for that term. But the GM will get the blame from media and then the fans when this contract looks as terrible as it is in under a calender year.

But, after years of having ego and hubris dictate decisions in attempt to be the maverick of the NHL, Lowe isn't going to stop now.
