Brad Treliving's RFA wizardry still amazes me.

6 years buys 2 UFA years. Let’s assume number 1D trajectory
2 yrs 3.5
2 yrs 6
2yrs 10
—————
So 6.5 per is probably the high Scenario going year by year. 3 million per is probably if his development were to stall today. So 4.5 is roughly half way between the two potential outcomes. The only question is whether the 1 million extra spent the next 2 years good be better spent in the Gaudreau window.
Overall a good deal to keep cost certainty for the next 6 years on what could be a cornerstone player.

Hell yes! I was hoping we'd lock him up long term ASAP.
Crazy how far he's come from being the disappointing but promising prospect most camps that routinely came to camp overweight.

Fantastic contract. He's the obvious successor (currently, we'll see how Valimaki continues to progress) to Gio as the leader of our D.

Wonder how Bennett is feeling. Ras has to be the first good, young prospect to start after Sam and then to ₩exceed and sign for twice as much.
Maybe a kick in the pants for Sam if he wants to be part if the core and get paud

Good signing. He should be well worth it over that time.

I have been harsh on treliving for a while, but this is another in the win column when analyzing his moves during his gm tenure.

I’d be willing to pay him $4.55 right now with no growth. So I’m good with it.

Wow, how can the Wizard be so good with contracts the vast majority of the time except when it comes to UFAs?! Great deal!

I was worried they missed their chance for a contract like this in the off season with how he's played this year..
Great signing. He's good on the ice, but a pretty huge part of the dressing room too from all reports

It should come with a mandatory mic'd up clause.

Looking at the Flames, this leaves three NHL RFAs: Kylington, Mangiapane, and Jankowski.
I think you qualify the first two. I'd like to see a cheaper, two-year contract at around $1 million for Kylington; a longer-term, maybe four or five years at about $2.5-3 million, if possible, for Mangiapane, and a one-year cheap deal around the league minimum for Jankowski, if they decide to give him another shot.
