Nice to see, hopefully it stays that way or they add to it. I like what the scouts have been doing with next to no resources, I would really like to see what they can accomplish with 20-25 picks in the next 3 drafts.

Never understood the little bit of hate Frolik received. He was excellent for a few seasons as part of the 3M line. Wish him all the best.

Scoring Winger
|
I love it! He's a solid player just wasn't fitting in well this year. He's not an ideal 4th line player where he's been used and didn't have a good fit anywhere else in the lineup, also have other just as effective penalty killers. I'm surprised Flames could get a 4th but will take that cap space! Now just find either a top 6 center or a right shooting right winger.

Hopefully the start of something on the much needed shakeup. Will be interesting to see how much Frolik gets July 1st. My guess is 1 or 2 years at not much per. He was .5 per game but won't be going forward and I don't think teams are going to pay for the past.

Hopefully nothing... I hope it's a sign that this team doesn't have it this season. If we go on a run and make it, great. But just because we cleared space I hope it doesn't mean we're moving all in.

Didn't Friedman recently say a couple of players weren't too happy about being in and out of the lineup?
Gauranteed that Frolik was one of them. Mix that with his agents comments last year and Frolik was obviously happy to get a chance somewhere else.
This creates cap space. Maybe they call up Czarnik, or maybe Quine who recently had a 6 point game. Maybe they just hang onto the extra cap space and cost savings until the deadline, or injuries dictate otherwise.

Voted for Kodos

The key to this deal is the cap space opened up.
Treliving likely has some other pans in the fire.

He was pretty bad at times over the last 2 years of his deal. The whining to the media didnt earn him any goodwill, even if he was right.

It will feel like a 3rd rounder as well because I think that it is actually SJ's pick.

Frolik was an awesome signing. 3M at it's peak was pretty epic most nights. Best of luck to him for a pretty decent return.

Good move getting far more value than I expected for Frolik. I thought the Flames would need to retain salary or take a bad contract back.
Not sure I get this move from Buffalo's perspective. Frolik is not going to bump them up into the playoffs. Are they going to give him top 6 ice time then hope to flip at the deadline or is this longer term thinking hoping to re-sign him for next year?

First and foremost, happy with the move. This sheds salary and a roster spot for the Flames and provides Frolik with the opportunity to better showcase for his next contract.
Questions that come to mind given the timing
-Was this the first chance Treliving had to move him with no salary retained? If not, were the offers before not satisfactory?
-If Treliving had options before but decided he wanted Frolik as a Flame this season, does the timing of this move indicate
-Relationship with Frolik and his representation deteriorated even further very recently?
Or...
-Is Treliving moving this contract right now for the purpose of making space for something imminent and bigger? Which means their philosophy for this season is to win and add someone to do it.

Interesting to see what Tre does or if this is in response to what Friedman said t'other day.
|
For sure. It's actually pretty rare for a UFA contract to be worth it at the end. For most of the term it was well worth it, so I'd say overall it was a very good signing.

Frolik was a great signing, and provided a lot over the 4 years.
Getting a pick for him now is great, because there are replacements that can step in and provide what he does.
All around good timeline. Now let's use the space to add a RW, and then knock another 4th rounder out of the park!
