I saw two guys really getting into it about exactly this spot a couple of days ago. A cyclist was riding down that pathway at high speed (he rode the whole stretch between bridges, not the just portion to clear the giant puddle), and blew by a pedestrian in a pretty narrow section. Pedestrian wasn't impressed, started yelling at him. Cyclist circled back, and they were in a fairly heated shouting match as I was passing by.

Pedestrian was right though...if you're going to cut through the pathway on your bike, you need to give leeway to pedestrians. It doesn't just automatically become your pathway because there's an obstacle on yours.

I usually do, but I saw that someone had already logged Lake Bridgeland so I didn't do it again.

More reports sometimes means more rationale to deal with it.

I think I have talked myself into buying a new gravel grinder for commuting. I am looking for something with 42 width tires. Hoping to keep the price around $2k ish.

It primary task will be to carry me to work and back which is a 50k round trip.

I was thinking of staying with a flat bar rig, but think I will look at something with drops.

I was looking at the Giant Revolt Advanced 2 yesterday at a bike shop, thinking that will be my new pathway bike this year but might not be exactly what you're looking for.

That one maybe a possibility. In looking around on the web I really like the cube nuroad. But bow cycle is the only cube dealer in calgary

I went to my LBS yesterday and looked at the following rigs:

- Trek Checkpoint ALR5 - the bike is charcoal with red trim - i am generally not that keen on red
- Giant Revolt 2 - i really liked the frame because it has integrated down tube and chain stay protection, not sure about the beige with grey trim

Both bikes some with a shimano 105 grouppo.

Still like the pain scheme of the cube nuroad better. Also saw a devinci online that I kind of liked as it had some cool detail where the rear triangle met the seat tube. the only cube dealer in calgary is bow and lifesport handles devinci. Seeing as how i have no relationship with either shop, I would expect to pay close to retail which is hard when i get 15% off at my LBS.

i did see a rocky mountain altitude that took my breath away though. Full xtr build, shimano saint brakes, full carbon everything including cranks dark blue/tealish color paint scheme with orange trim on downtube, forks and rims - $7500.....there is no way i could pull this off and expect to maintain my marriage - is there?

If it gets/keeps you off public transit during this Coronavirus outbreak I don’t see how she could say no.

Calgary Cycle Bow is having their big sale this weekend. Might be worth checking out if you’re considering a new bike.

Today’s stock market activity may force me to wait a bit....timing is everything as I guess I should have pulled the trigger on my stock sale on Friday

Managed to get in about 30km yesterday after logging off from work at home. Honestly, I feel a million times better today after getting outside after a few days working from home. If I can, I'll do the same thing today.

Pulled the trigger on a new fatbike, i.e. Zombie Apocolypse Escape Vehicle.

Went with Trek Farley 7 and couldn't be happier.

The colour Roarage is apparently COVID19 repellant as well ; )

Picked it up at Ridleys - Okotoks location had one I wanted in stock, so picked up there. Great parking options compared to Kensington and couple of cool lads working in the store.

I picked up a wahoo Kickr smart trainer just over a week ago, and signed up on zwift as my social distanced workout of choice. Not sure if dropping the grand was wise as my industry tanks, but it will help me stay as fit and healthy as I can.

Thoroughly enjoying it so far, and thanks to Ktrain for the advice. I really hope biking can be a responsible thing to take part in once the weather improves, being active keeps me well balanced even when the world is in chaos.

I did the ride with Geoff Kabush on zwift today. over 500 people riding and asking him questions. Catherine Pendrel led a ride yesterday along with Axel Merckx. Tomorrow it looks like Kristen Armstrong and Jeremiah Bishop will be leading rides

I think cycling is the perfect pandemic sport. Easily done solo, but even in small groups you're likely to be 2 meters apart. If you have to pass other cyclists or pedestrians within that range, it's over with quickly. You don't have to touch anyone or anything.

I've really been enjoying the last couple of days fixing up my bikes in the back yard, then going for a solo ride. These usually end up at a local brewery where I pop in just to fill my handlebar bag with offsales (I've never been in any kind of line yet) so I can wash down dinner with a (washed-down) can or two when I get home.

I would say to "take it easy" when you're out cycling though. We can give Strava PRs a break for a few months and opt for slower, safer and more aware riding. No point crashing and taking up a space in at the hospital.

Is Kabush as good at trash talking as Lopes claims?

He didn’t really trash talk. It was more people asking questions. Although I did the shorter ride. Maybe he brought out the trash talk later.
