I was asked to photograph this engagement ring by a local artist, he's a member of CP (Surferguy) and he recently popped the question, needless to say she said yes.

Some scenes from Friday's 106th Annual Millarville Races . . . . .

The wild and woolly, mud-in-your-eye, no-holds-barred, Stock Horse Race, the one that started it all in 1905, pitting acreage owners, ranchers and farmers against each other for bragging rights and their name on a storied trophy, where the ladies frequently win but, in this case, the guy in the lead pulled it out over the woman on the right. . . .

Thoroughbred action from the ground floor . . . . I love laying beside the track for shots like this . . . .

Big crowd, lots of action . . . .

Including faceplants in the three-legged races . . . .

Others at www.goldentales.ca/millarvilleblog2011.htm if you're interested.

happy Canada day everyone!!!!

my wife and i were in penticton this evening - taking in 'cirque du soleil'. after the show we headed to go watch the fireworks.

I was pretty impressed… I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect since penticton is quite a bit smaller than kelowna.

the thing that blew me away is they shot all the fireworks off on a beach… not a barge on the lake like in kelowna… and these things are literally blowing up right over you - had I known this, I would have used a different lens, but once the show started I just rolled with what I had on my camera

cheers

An abstracted (and very different angle than SebC's image) shot of the fireworks being lit from the Municipal building.
I like how it almost looks like the building is on fire.

1.4 second exposure at 46mm and f/11
