They should replace the glass with cables, spaced just far apart enough for a dog's head to fit through. Then you could have external photos of the bridge showing random dog heads, and ones on the bridge with dog torsos. We could rename it the Portal Bridge.

Terrible timing with Huberdeau checking out the city in August.

They need help, not scorn. And they need the help before they become lost causes. Whatever this guy’s issues are, assuming they could have been fixed, I doubt they would have cost anywhere near what we’re paying to replace that glass.
I don't necessarily disagree, but these panels just seem like a pretty odd target...which is maybe the point, but it also seems like it had to be more pre-meditated.

The reality is that just about any structure, or at least any nice one, can be damaged by a sufficiently motivated person. And this is one of the most politicized structures in Calgary.

Peace bridge is going to get steel tension cables to replace the glass panels that were destroyed:

Nice, seems like a good solution. I'm sure some ####face will take a grinder to them at some point, but should be cheaper to repair. Only issue is the previous glass provided a good snow barrier in the winter, so they'll probably have to shovel more often.

The article I linked was also just updated that the cost of doing this was the same as replacing the glass. Approximately one million.

They should have just left the broken glass and called it 'neo-apocalyptic chic.'

The original ####face is probably free and already planning exactly that.

Based on the rendering, it's also going to cross the ocean when the work is done, so that should be nice.

Looks like they're extending it out to the ocean too.

Aha! I knew all that drilling and "drainage pipe" through Sunnyside wasn't for stormwater!

Finally, Sunnyside becoming useful for something other than sponging up water from the river.

The snow barrier will be missed. I don't think you could make a slipperier surface with snow than the pedestrians sidewalks on the peace bridge if you tried. I'm more surefooted on a freshly zambonied ice rink than I am on that polished concrete with a dusting of snow.

I am thinking that granite sidewalks along Centre St by the Bow comes close for high slip and slide factor.

If memory serves Calatrava has the initial version of the Peace bridge with a granite surface.

Yeah, whats the deal with that?

Similarly my wife and I were just in Mexico and everywhere near the pools was made of the same stuff which, when wet, is worse than sheer ice.

Who thought this was a good idea?
