Sweden is not "low level" they are top shelf as juniors go so for Coronato to step up in this game is a terrific sign.
Craig Button has picked Sweden to win the tournament.

I was critical of some of the hype, but after seeing him step up his game against a real opponent in Sweden and getting 2 goals in a 3-2 win, he deserves some credit.

Someone said the more important games get, the bigger he plays.

I hope he attracts a ton of attention so the Flames can trade him for some good value before he stiffs them because he doesnt want to play in Calgary.

After or during this tournament is likely some of the best value we will ever get for Coronato in a trade. If he comes out one of America's top forwards.

If you believe our window is the next ~4 years, then Coronato is extremely unlikely to notably contribute in that time frame, especially if he does more than 1 further year of college.

All said, we should maximize this asset if there's a good opportunity out there.

Well Gaudreau played 8 years here, and was in the org for 11.

Tkachuck for 6.

Coleman signed 6 yrs sight unseen as a UFA. Hanafin for 5 as RFA. Conroy permanently relocated. So did Joel Otto.

Stop trying to frame it like Americans don’t like Canada.

When Guadreau and Tkachuk left, I saw two different sources say that Hanifin on the other hand loves playing in Calgary and in Canada. Calgary has a lot going for it. It's different strokes for different folks.

Plenty of reasons to leave Calgary.

Plenty of reasons to stay in Calgary.

Stop using another’s circumstances to influence your decision making as an organization. Possibly the worst decision you can make.

I have been grumpy about Americans leaving before. That's on me.

Really if fox didn't only want the Rangers maybe this is true
But fox only wanted the Rangers. That's it.

I don’t want this franchise drafting Greg Nemisz and Kris Chucko over Adam Fox and Johnny Gaudreau just because the first two are Canadians

It seems to be more guys with strong ties to the NCAA or the US national hockey system that seem to want out the most.

There's definitely some reason to be concerned with Coronato being from long island and playing at Harvard. He grew up an Islanders fan though. So working for the Flames, there's always the facts that the Islanders organization seems to be in a perpetual state of crisis and he likely hates their rivals.

Watching Coronato in the WJC over the last week, I’ve noticed that he plays a very mature game… you can see his skills and he makes big plays (loved his assist tonight) but he rarely tries to do too much. He rarely makes a mistake or a bad decision with the puck. Seems focused on establishing a cycle in the offensive zone and he wins puck battles consistently.

It’s great to see because this tournament sometimes makes lots of guys try to make the highlight reel rather than make the smart play. I’ve seen it from Cooley a few times… obviously he’s a great player but he’s definitely tried to dangle through multiple guys rather than make the smart cycle play… and it’s led to the cycle breaking down and the puck going back the other way.

Anyone that didn't have Coronato #1 or #2 in the Draft Rankings would you move him up based on what you've seen up to this point in the WJC?

4 goals 3 assists through 4 games and a period.

That's the kind of WJC PPG clip that future NHLers put up. I'm encouraged.

To me he’s looked like the US best player too, especially tonight.

Coach needs to give that line more ice time

Agreed. Coach also needs to call it on Hughes… the kid is hurt.

No. Wolf is the #1 guy. He didn't even flinch at his 1st AHL season. And frankly, neither did Pelletier. I like Coronoto a lot but he's a step or two back of the two others mentioned here.
