Arcade Fire’s performances were of course amazing, starting off with “Reflektor,” and then premiering “Afterlife” in their second song. If you missed the post-SNL Arcade Fire concert, check it out. It’s one of the weirdest things I’ve seen on TV, with cameos from many SNL favorites and of course three fantastic new Arcade Fire songs.
I missed that.
Best Lines of the Night:
-“All I know is Obamacare or no Obamacare, people need to stop putting stuff up their butts.” -“This Sunday AMC will air the series finale of Breaking Bad. There’s been a lot of speculation about who will survive and who won’t. But I don’t like your chances, Low Winter Sun.” -“You stay strong Juice!” -“You went to school until you were eight and then you got married to a factory.” -“We’re so crazy, not only did we slash prices, but I gave all my babies to the well.”
Really enjoyed the plane boarding skit and the "Girls" spoof. The new girl on Weekend Update was really good too. Did not enjoy the Obama opening at all.
Arcade Fire killed it and the after show was fantastic.

Instead of taking your bait...I'll just say that if you didn't like the SNL performances, or first bit of the Here Comes the Night Time video, skip ahead to 16:00. Some good rock and roll that anyone who appreciates the genre would enjoy.

Thanks I actually will do that. I really didn't like their performances on SNL, and have not really enjoyed other songs of theirs, but I will give that point a listen.

I thought the episode was absolutely terrible and in no way funny, particularly given the writers had all summer to at least contemplate skits (Drunk Uncle being the exception). It is telling that they had a good actor in Aaron Paul available for cameos and all they could come up with was him playing 'Jesse' three times.
Arcade Fire rule but may be the most awkward disco band ever.

Kennan Thompson filling the shoes of Bill Hader in the game show skit and Jason Sudekis in the cinema classics was very awkward. He cannot be anything other than a goofy black guy character.
I think Cecily Strong will do fine on Weekend Update. She was just clearly a little jittery in this episode. Big shoes to fill, but she's hilarious in most things she's done on the show. And she'll have have Seth around a little while longer for her transition.
But what the hell was up with that stand up comic guy. That was awful. Simply awful. Kept waiting for a punchline or something, but it just didn't happen.

That's the joke. Satirizing bad stand-up comedians. The look he gives after making the joke is the bit.

Well then that bit just flew over my head then. It would probably be funnier in a stand-up routine where he leads into it by ragging on stand-up comics, but as a standalone character I just didn't get it. For me it just came like he was deliberately pulling bad joke after bad joke, and I was waiting for a payoff, but instead it just ended off with some sad rant of some kind. Woosh.
