This season he starts first 2 games on 4th line and around 9 mins/game. With less opportunity than last season he (not Peters) earns 3rd line ice team and has looked good so far. He’s made most of chance not coach.
I think you missed the point.

A lot of stats are pointing to the fact that he had a better 17/18 season than production suggested.

Having scoring chance rates like that puts him in the upper half of forwards in the league, not a guy that should be trade fodder.

He's continuing on with what he did last year by all accounts, but maybe he's more effective because it's a deeper team?

Bennett is gonna blow the last 2 seasons out of the water this year.

He looks more confident and has displayed some slick hands on his assist last night and called off goal the other night.

It looks pretty much obvious that Bennett was trying too hard to make plays happen last year, which resulted in a lot of penalties.

He looks more calm, poised and disciplined. I think he cracks 40 this year.

Even the penalty thing was over done by the media in my mind.

Bennett was 4th on the team in minors last year behind Hamilton , Hathaway and Giordano

In terms of penalties per ice time he was 4th as well behind Hathaway, Glass and Tkachuk.

But he was also 4th on the team in drawing penalties and sat -6 on the season for a differential which was the team's 6th worst behind Hamilton (-20), Backlund (-15), Giordano (-10), Hamonic and Stone

For sure too many in the offensive zone (wish I could look that up) but overall the "feel" was over done.

Saw "Sam Bennett" trending on Twitter just now.
Feared the worst. (in my mind, that would be that he's traded now)
Twitter search reveals it's Sam Bennett, the cyclist, who has won some stage in the Tour de Turkey.
Breathes sigh of relief...

Gee maybe he should save his energy for hockey games.

icon57 On if the Calgary Flames have ever been close to trading Sam Bennett:

Quote:
“I don’t get the sense that it’s ever been close to the point where it was actually imminent,” began Friedman. “I think they’ve gone far down the road at times. I think there are situations where maybe people thought they were getting close to a deal, but I don’t think it’s ever been at a point where anyone ever said, ‘We’re about to get this done.’”
Quote:
Friedman believes the Flames look at the Oilers trading Taylor Hall and wonder if the same could happen if they traded Bennett.

If Bennett and Backlund could ever finish their scoring chances they would be neck and neck for the rocket

Bennett has looked really good to start the season; he seems on the cusp of breaking out. Keep him and see if it happens.

Flames Calgary Flames Hesitant To Move Sam Bennett Despite Interest:

The bolded is news to me.

Quote:
Friedman specifically names the Anaheim Ducks, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Tampa Bay Lightning as teams that he knows have had interest in Bennett before and, especially in the case of Anaheim and Montreal, likely continue to. The fact that Bennett is perceived as being available via trade would seem to indicate that the Flames continue to field offers for the young forward, even if they aren’t actively selling.
Quote:
It’s fair to want to avoid giving up on potential, particularly for a disappointing return, but a point is fast approaching when Bennett can no longer be seriously compared to a player like Hall.

Yeah, it can take time to undo the damage of a poor administration. Those articles are good copy, and I suspect from the perspective of the organization, the clock has reset on a 22 year old with a new coach after a crap coach. He has been very good in the two games he has gotten ice time and NHL linemates

I remember when Brent Sutter was in Calgary he devalued some assets as well. Hartley was key in reestablishing value.

It would be horrible to see Bennett in Anaheim. I’m sure he would find a Getzlaf mode.

"Friedman believes the Flames look at the Oilers trading Taylor Hall and wonder if the same could happen if they traded Bennett."

Friedman has to be out to lunch on this comment. Hall has been a 50 point plus player since day one and is now a point per game plus player.

I think anyone would be ecstatic if Bennett ever gets to 50 points.

You've completely missed the point, which was that the player got better after being traded. And I think it's a pretty safe bet that the same thing would happen with Bennett.

I’d be ecstatic if Bennett turned into a 2nd player instead of 3rd/4th liner.
