No huge surprise. How do teams generate any cash right now? Why would a fan commit to new season tickets today? How do you sell advertising for a season that will begin??? and be played at????
For those with season tickets, what did the flames ask for in terms of next season?

The players will get rolled back through escrow. And I have no doubt whatsoever that being stuck in a hotel and separated from one's family for over a month would be very difficult.

The players have a union, contracts and a labor agreement that was collectively bargained.
These folks don’t.

The players already gave up their final paycheques for the 2019-20 season, in addition to all the money that was withheld for escrow prior to the stoppage of play.
I believe they get paid 13 times a season (15th and 30th of every month from October to March, plus a final cheque in mid-April), so that's just under 8% for the final cheque, plus whatever else they had already lost to escrow.
Also, escrow for 2020-21 is already set at 20%, so this is the exact same rollback (percentage-wise at least) as what the players have already agreed to. Unless there's a miracle recovery next season, the true amount owed to escrow will likely far exceed 20%, but that will be paid back by the players over multiple years.

Maybe not a popular opinion but I think the players should take a 20% cut too. It's not like we are going to see them applying for EI at a max of $2038 a month. The pain should be shared by everyone. Pretty sure my salary is getting cut soon too.

Player salaries are linked to revenues. With plummeting revenues you can be certain that their earnings are going to drop substantially with them. They are definitely "sharing tbe pain."

Anaheim Ducks: A 20 per cent reduction for salaries of $70,000 to $250,000, increasing to 25 per cent for salaries north of $250,000, through Dec. 31, 2020.
Chicago Blackhawks: A 20 per cent reduction for salaries above $200,000, 15 per cent reduction for $100,000 to $200,000, with the elimination of bonuses.
These makes more sense than what the Flames are doing IMO. Hate to say it, but even the Oilers' decision makes more sense.

So another dud coach hire coming up! Like on a business level pay a bit more for a proven coach brings in a higher ROI cause getting into the playoffs might be easier.

Sorry, it makes more sense that someone who was previously earning $99,000 would have their salary dropped to $89,100 and someone who was previously earning $100,000 would have theirs dropped to $85,000? Or a drop from $149,000 to $126,650 but a drop from $150,000 to $112,500? Why should earning as little as $1 more theoretically result in a $14,150 greater cut in your salary?

Not in theory.
I better way to do it would be to say everyone making above (insert arbitrary number, $50k?) gets up to a 20% paycut, down to a minimum of 50k. So if someone was making $60k, they'd make $50k, but if someone was making $70k, they'd make $56k.

No one likes to lose salary but I believe the way our company did it was quite fair. Salary up to 100k was exempt and 10% rollback was placed on what you made above 100k, So if you make 105k for the year your rollback is only on the 5k, if you make 200k for the year your rollback is on 100k, if you are under 100k for the year, no rollback...results in bigger rollbacks for those earning more. Execs also took a higher rollback for their portions...I think it was 20%.
