Ville Husso IMO is the Blues goalie of the future. They needed to.give him NHL games and it was time to make room, add in the benefit of being able to keep your captain, thats great asset management.

They have lots of cap room and need to be able to play a different goalie n back to backs so they don't exhaust Price. He nearly beat the top seed in the East in the playoffs this year. And I think the big reason for that was that he was well rested.

There are better options for that kind of money IMO

I always love these 7th round swaps in deals like this.
It's like going to a dealership, picking out a car you like, agreeing on a price and then fighting over whether or not the little tree air freshener is included.

Crawford is going to come cheaper? I dont believe so. Who knows what the trade costs for the other goalies would be. Might be too high for their liking. No reason to think Khudobin is going anywhere. Looks like the perfect Tandem for Dallas.

What if the deal was,
Gaudreau, Lucic, Rittich ($14.75)
for
Domi, Price, prospect/pick ($10.5 + Domi $?)

Not actually sure about Crawford, was just looking at UFA's. But Khud is also UFA so he is technically available

Jake Allen outperformed everyone listed there expect Kuemper, who they wouldn't have been able to acquire for effectively a 3rd round.

It doesn't, that's just "grass is greener" at it's peak.

Not sure if they're gonna keep him, but Allen as a backup to Price is nice.

A 3rd for Jake Allen? Seems high. That probably means Anderson , Fleury , Murray should be worth more.

Jake Allen is getting really underrated here.
19/20 Playoffs: .935 save % (5 GP)
19/20 Regular Season: .927 save %, 0.379 save % above expected (24 GP)
Vs.
Matt Murray
19/20 Playoffs: .914 save % (3 GP)
19/20 Regular Season: .899 save %, -1.084 save % above expected (38 GP)
Freddie Andersen
19/20 Playoffs: .936 save % (5 GP)
19/20 Regular Season: .909 save %, -.498 save % above expected (52 GP)
Marc-Andre Fleury
19/20 Playoffs: .893 save % (3 GP)
19/20 Regular Season: .905 save %, -.252 save % above expected (49GP)
Murray, Andersen, and Fleury all fell off in 2019/2020 - Murray to a really significant degree (he's also just generally struggled since Fleury left).
To me, Andersen is worth a 3rd at best. Fleury is a cap-dump that Vegas will have to pay someone to take, and Murray is nothing more than a redemption project at this stage. Goalies are difficult to project, but generally you don't want one that is coming off a bad season or a string of bad seasons - there is zero guarantee goalies bounce back and generally they don't.

Goalies are voodoo. Even the best goalies in the NHL have play that varies greatly from year to year.
Don't trade big assets to try to get one because you really don't know what you are getting.
Also Allen is good and is a top end backup/ 1B but he's shown that he's not ideal as a full time starter. So makes sense for the role that but he's making too much money.
But Montreal has the cap room for him so it doesn't really matter.

I think its easier to play goal with the Blues in front of you than those other teams

Are there not better ways to spend that cap space though?
With the COVID crunch, there have never been more teams in tighter spots than this year. A team with cap space to spare should be able to make out like bandits if they use it correctly.
Spending tat much of it on a backup is pretty poor management IMO.
Also, goalies are witches.

I think that this could work out well for the Canadiens, Allen is a very competent goaltender who would work well in backup role. Cap space isn't an issue and it is a one year deal anyway so it isn't as though it is handcuffing them for a long period of time.
The other thing to remember is that this works out to be a 3 million dollar upgrade on who they have now and they have someone who can shoulder some of the burden from Price who is getting up there in years and still has a long time left on his deal.
Right now they already have as much tied up in goaltenders with Lindgren, Kinkade (buried), and Mason (buyout).
