Not sure if this comment was directed towards my and my post right before yours, but in my scenario the Flames have 4 legit top 4 Dmen but only have to protect OEL, Ras and Gio because Demers would be a pending UFA and Valimaki would be exempt.

You are right, I think I was thinking Klyington but typed Valamaki. Essentially protecting young talent that can potentially be with the organization for 5-10 years. More than likely that 3rd spot would be a player signed in this off season.

OEL has no value to the Flames, spend that money upfront and use the ELC and lower contracts that we have in our up and coming D men to fill the line.
