Nope. I am correct. Working together over a World Championships is certainly considered work experience. Also Treliving and Gulutzan knew each other from the ECHL/AHL time;

I could bring up Don Maloney if you want other examples of Treliving surrounding himself with people he's got experience with. To be fair this happens often in sports but I'm not sure if it equates to hiring the best people for the job in most cases.

Agreed. His style is such that he doesn't always fit with certain teams. But when he does fit, he consistently takes that team to the next level. Some people hate him but I love him. I hope he wins.

But isn't Torts just there because of unexpectedly good performances by goaltenders? He has no control over that.

I dunno, I'd pick Vigneault... The Flyers are even better than their standings position indicates. I can't remember the last time they were this legitimate a contender.

It was only 10 years ago they were in the SCF but they have been treading water most of this decade. I do think that roster has talent and it was just a matter of getting a high quality coach.

Or did they get good performances by their goaltenders because of Torts' systems and coaching.

AV did a great job, no doubt, but they are where they should be in the standings based on the team they have. I mean credit to AV and Carter Hart for getting a chronically underachieving team to where they are supposed to be, but Columbus has no business being anywhere near a playoff spot.

WTF? so he hired a guy he strung along for six months with "we're sending him back tomorrow", and he thought he was the best guy for the job?
I'm not sure who looks more inept hearing that story.

You’re reading too much into it. Sounds like he was being friendly and joking around with GG.

How Tortorella didn’t win this, especially given the mass exodus of elite talent we saw out of Columbus, is a complete farce.

LOL for those 4 votes for first place for Tippett. Must be harder than I thought to tap McDavid on the shoulder for his next shift.

I personally think Tippet did a tremendous job last season. The Oilers are a lottery team, and he had them in a playoff position.

Cassidy is not a big name established coach.

He got a extension after his SC appearance last season and is rumored to be making 3M / year.

AV rumored to be 5M x 5 years

Torterrella was making 3.5 M before his last 2 year extension.

Tippett is 2.75 x 3 with the Oilers

Maurice was extended 3M x 3 years

Joel Quenneville's current five-year, $26.25 million contract

Babcock 6.25 x 8 in 2015 with the Leafs paying off the last 3.5 years.

It seems that the Head coach should be making a lot more than a journeyman bottom 6 forward like Ryan 3.15 x 3

I get what you are saying, but 5v5 they were far from a playoff team. They rode a historic PP.

So having a great PP is not a validation of good coaching?

That takes away a point of pride for the Flames. They are a much better specialist team than they are on 5 on 5.

The Flames were 21st in the league in 5v5 goals scored (131) and 22nd 5v5 in Goals against.(146) -15 as a 5v5 team.

Without the special teams the Flames are not even a bubble team

Oilers were 26th in 5v5 goals (154) against but 11th in 5v5 goals scored (144)

-10 as a 5v5 team

I don't mind Cassidy winning, he's done a good job.

It was Torts for me though
