Rode to the 6k lookout point on lazy lizard in fernie this morning. Left our condo ( right across the road from the entrance to mt fernie park) at 7.45 this morning, got to the look out at 8.50. Rested for 10 minutes and sent my biking buddy some trail porn, then headed back to the condo, and arrived at 9.40.....there was pain and suffering until I stopped at the lookout, and then it felt like 10 pedal strokes for the last 40 minutes....
What an buff trail thru older growth forest. I wish I would have had more time to get to the lodge for a pop on thierbdeck

I was not happy when I opened my garage door and heard the wind - rode into it.
not looking forward to riding into it again this afternoon when it turns around.....

the flag over Chinook ctr is completely limp, so for now, the wind has died down. i'll leave here at a little after 3, so it has two hours to work itself up into a frenzy

Huge shock as the wind turned around.....
Despite the wind, I had a real bicycle feel good story today, as the boys at Cyclepath called me to tell me that my replacement rear shock had finally come in (the boys there had made arrangements to secure me a cane creek shock at a great price, so I now have a spare), so as a thanks for the stellar service they provide me with I decided to give the boys 15 beers for them to enjoy. On the way out my favourite sales guy flipped me a sweet pair of dissent socks, so it was a break even proposition.

my commuter bike is a giant fastroad - looks like this (except my bike has pedals):
My mtn bike is a rocky mountain thunderbolt and my fat bike is a rocky mountain blizzard -50 (both bikes handle very similarly)

The wind is just a fact of life for riding here. Some days will be a grind, but your legs are better for it.
Bring your water today, gang, 30C today!!

I feel like I'm finally qualified to post in this thread.
Rode in 2 times this week, for the first times ever.
Its about a 45 min ride for me, 95% along the Bow River path which is real nice.
The crappy thing is, Ive had 2 flat tires this week.
Rear tire Tuesday right in front of City Hall. Luckily I was relatively close to work so I just walked it in and brought it into MEC over lunch to have it fixed.
When I went to grab the bike from the garage today, the front was flat. Weird, cause it was perfectly fine when I rode home yesterday.

Flats suck. You get better and better at changing them yourself the more you ride.
I always suggest people try changing their tube a few times before the really start commuting. You don't want to be on YouTube trying to figure it out when you really need it.

Great job, keep it up! Bummer on the two flats, what kind of tires and how old are the tubes? If they have been sitting for a while i'd just get new tubes for the bike, they cost like $7 each.

It's very odd (or unlucky) to get two in that short order. Are your tires underinflated? Check the recommended pressure on the side of the tire and pump it up to that.

Good advice. I had to change a flat last week and it took me forever (or 20 minutes, anyways) since I was really not used to doing it.

I'm not sure how old the tubes were, I bought this bike used. Its a 2014 model, so I think they were probably the originals.
They were for sure under inflated. I always get paranoid about over-inflating, until the MEC tech told me it should be closer to the higher end of the psi range. I think the tire said 45-80psi and I guarantee it was probably in the 50-60psi range.
The rear flat was my fault. I'm not used to these hybrids/commuter bikes quite yet as I had rode a mountain bike my whole life.
It popped when I hopped a curb and the back tire hit. Instantly deflated. Ooops. Guess I shouldn't do that, huh. I've done that 1000x with my mountain bikes with no issues. lol.
