This is truly sad, a 2nd year soccer league managed to put together a short season in Canada but the 100 year old league couldn't figure something out.
Billionaire owners in Calgary, Hamilton, Toronto. Community ownership that churns profits in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Sask. BC owner who's owned two teams at a time, Montreal just new owners who haven't had to pay many bills yet and Ottawa that has been doing decent.
All these teams need to re-evaluate their business model if all it took was a pandemic for them to cancel a season.
I hope someone just buys the league outright, make it their own rules. At this point it doesn't really matter anymore.

I hope this does not stop Halifax in their tracks.

Very long in my opinion. Will a couple of teams fold? That's a possibility.

No, Saskatchewan will fund the whole thing if they have to.

About 7 to 1, I’d say. The league will survive.

Or hired Maggie Trudeau to some do-nothing job and she signs and hand delivers the letter of request. Then the money rolls in.

I'm thinking six - Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Ottawa. Montreal has new owners, so they might survive, but Braley has been trying to sell the Lions for it seems forever. They have some passionate Argo fans in Toronto, but only about 10K of them.

All 9 teams will be back guaranteed. Hoping Halifax can still enter the fray as well.

As per Nik Lewis on twitter the CFL wouldn't open up their books to the Feds while asking for a handout. C'mon, it's like going to a bank for a mortgage and saying nope, I won't tell you anything about my other finances but just give me the money because I need it.
What are hiding? They wouldn't open up books during CBA negotiations won't lay out the salary number of players.
In the end I think it only really hurts the players and fans don't get the enjoy the CFL. The owners were fine before and will be fine afterwards.

Must be some real shady #### going on in the back if they aren't willing to share their books with both the players, and the feds. If that's the case, the league is fine then and will come back with all teams for sure.

My guess is that some teams (Roughriders) make money hand over fist to the point where if they were to share their profit equally, the entire league could make a profit and that's what the feds would say if they saw the books.
Also, other teams like the Stampeders (Flames) probably have zero interest in opening their books to anyone and would rather kill the season than subject themselves to that. CFL dollars are small potatoes to them.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see any teams folded and I hope that the league can add a 10th team in Halifax in the future. I'm generally an optimist in life, I guess it's just the news that we won't be seeing CFL football in 2020 that has me a little down in the dumps.

In this day and age a professional sports league that has zero transparency, full of owners all trying to out-cheat the others was always going to fall on very hard times. The league is fatally flawed as you simply can't operate a sports league like this anymore as everyone knows the owners are crooks. It may be best for the league to fold, be dismantled, and be resurrected with fresh faces as the old regime is simply out of touch.
