I think that's a solid deal for both sides. I don't think Hanifin is a top-tier #1 defencemen, and his contract obviously doesn't reflect that he is. I do think, however, that he is a very good #2 guy that can play a tonne against the league's best players, and is very healthy. I think Vegas will get full-value on this deal, and I doubt Hanifin would have seen much better anywhere else in terms of AAV, not to mention the extra year he gets in Vegas.

Yeah, thanks for not signing that deal a month ago, Noah.

I usually agree with your takes, but this one stings a bit. Hanifin is a much better player than many of us gave him credit for.

Miromanov is an alright depth dman, but I don't see him ever being near Hanifins level. The picks we will have to wait and see.

That Nurse contract looked ridiculous before the ink even dried on the paper.

Yeah I get what you mean but my point is more just that a player like Hanifin would help prevent this team from being what it needs to be for the next few years (read: pretty bad). I think it's a decent deal for Vegas. Would've been bonkers for Calgary.

Similar to why players dont' like escrow.
I agree with the rest of your post, but the only reason they don't like escrow is because they don't understand it.

I suppose it comes down to interests. I’m not really into the entertainment scene and the desert is of no interest to me, would prefer Canadian or west coast. Could be an interesting forum survey. If you had a 10 team no trade list, which teams would be on it.

Mine would be:
- Vegas
- Dallas
- Florida
- Tampa
- Washington
- New Jersey
- New York Islanders
- Chicago
- Buffalo
- Detroit

Honourable Mention:
- Philadelphia

Please elaborate ?

Why would they like sacrificing money ever paycheck they may not get back , and best case they don’t get to invest during the season and in effect are granting the owners a short term interest free loan for the season

How is “not understanding “ = why they don’t like ?

I think you are confusing whether it exists for a valid reason due to HRR being “unknown” vs players having to “like it”

The players like having big nominal salaries that add up to more than their 50% share of HRR. They dislike escrow because it cuts their salaries back to what they should have been in the first place.

Basically, it's the reverse of the situation where stupid people like to have too much income tax deducted from their paycheques, because they feel good when they get their tax refund. They don't get that they just gave the government an interest-free loan for the whole year.

Wasn’t there a rumour that flames were offering him $8 million a year just before the trade deadline?

I'm not confusing anything. And they aren't sacrificing anything.

Total player salaries = 50% of HRR. If total contracts = more than 50% of HRR, there has to be a clawback. Period. Is what it is, nothing to hate, it's just math being applied to the CBA they agreed to.

Not much of a big American city guy, just prefer living in Canada, if that wasn’t possible, I’d lean towards small USA markets, locations with skiing, or west coast. Just a lifestyle decision. Nothing to do with team success.
