Does anyone opt out of returning?
https://twitter.com/user/status/1279974514798088198
So with things getting closer to returning, do we see any superstar players opt out of coming back to play?

Already seen a few in baseball. I’m sure we’ll have a few in hockey too. Who that will be is beyond me though.
Hopefully McDavid and Draisaitl.

I’m sure there will be a couple because of medical conditions. It will also depend on what the safety of the bubble is . Baseball is playing 60 games, no bubble and flying around North America . Basketball has bubble in Florida but only for players and coaches. All outside staff comes in and out of bubble on a daily basis.

The major difference being baseball is still going to be travelling all over the US, and to Toronto, plus the league and players didn't agree on a return to play, their 60 game schedule was mandated by the league.

I could see Domi possibly opting out. He has Type 1 Diabetes, which has been linked to more severe illnesses in those who get COVID, and the Habs are a heavy longshot to advance past the play-in round anyway.
Any player who has a baby due in the next couple of months is going to have a difficult decision to make.

Or for that crowd, Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Giordano and Andersson

I imagine all of Hab nation wants to tank this anyways so they have a shot at the Laf Lotto.

Sounds like you can leave if you have to for life things such as having a baby. But when you come back you're in bubble quarantine for 4 days before you can play again.

The list will be interesting on one hand, on the other it sucks for players having to essentially disclose an underlying medical condition if they wanted it kept private. Obviously they won't get into specifics but they'll get faced with that kind of speculation
I bet the players will call it the sausage fest games or something like that. Months and months away from their girlfriends and wives..

I think we see fewer than 5 players league wide opt out.

Wonder if Price is one going off his tweets. Probably not super stoked to strain his back carrying his entire team in a tournament they shouldn't have qualified for anyways.

With players having to clear medical/physical before being eligible, it would also be interesting to see how many players don’t opt out, but are barred from playing due to being deemed at risk.

I’d rather the Habs win it than half the teams that will likely be there.

Nah. It's bad enough with the Oilers having McDavid and the Leafs being the Leafs. Another league star in Montreal and the Flames may as well be showing up on milk cartons at Rogers and TSN studios. I don't want to see any Canadian team outside of the Flames get him.

Won't lie, I'm a little concerned about the guys who aren't in Calgary yet.
