Icon59 Oilers sign Justin Schultz to one year deal ($3.675 mil)

Gene Principe @GenePrincipe
This 'Justin' literally. Expect it to be announced today that the Edmonton Oilers and J.Schultz have agreed on a one year deal.

Oilers doing something right? I don't follow religion but isn't that one of the signs of the apocalypse ?

That's a lot of money for a guy that plays in only half the ice.

Little high, but reasonable considering it is Edmonton.

Hope he is just as awful defensively this year as last.

Engelland makes 3 million to play neither end.

not a bad cap number at all. will be interesting how this plays out next year. it would be awesome if he has a similar year where his offensive numbers are reasonable but is just bad defensively. In today's league, he'd be due for a pay raise, which i sure hope the oilers give him.

Little too much money but I think thats the trade off for the 1 year deal. Still an RFA after the contract is over. Unfortunately it's a good signing.

Definitely not terrible, definitely not great. A 'show me' contract that is a little on the high side, but not ugly.

As for the Engelland comparison - there is a big reason why UFA salaries are NOT included in any arbitration cases, and the Flames are not competing any time soon unlike that special team up north. Let's just leave it at that.

So does Schultz, except that it's his own team feeling it.
