Mark Linkous and Vic Chesnutt, both talented musicians, were friends and tragically committed suicide within a year of each other. You can hear their pain in their music. Its sad that they couldn’t find the help they needed.

Weird and a little unsettling. so naturally I have to share it with the world:

As always, Tom Waits makes me smile uncomfortably. Here's a little foray into suspicion and paranoia.

Such great poetry:

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building in there?
He has subscriptions to those magazines
He never waves when he goes by

And he's hiding something from the rest of us
He's all to himself, I think I know why
He took down the tire-swing from the pepper tree
He has no children of his own, you see

He has no dog, he has no friends
And his lawn is dying
And what about those packages he sends?
What's he building in there?

With that hook light on the stairs
What's he building in there?
I'll tell you one thing, he's not building a playhouse for the children
What's he building in there?

Now what's that sound from underneath the door?
He's pounding nails into a hardwood floor
And I swear to God I heard someone moaning low
And I keep seeing the blue light of a TV show

He has a router and a table saw
And you won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
There's poison underneath the sink, of course
There's also enough formaldehyde to choke a horse

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building in there?
I heard he has an ex-wife in some place called Mayor's Income, Tennessee
And he used to have a consulting business in Indoneeeesia

But what's he building in there?
He has no friends but he gets a lot of mail
I bet he spent a little time in jail
I heard he was up on the roof last night, signaling with a flashlight

And what's that tune he's always whistling?
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?
We have a right to know

You got one part of it wrong, it's clearly "Indoneeeesia".

This is the coolest thing I've heard in years. It's been a loooooong time since I bought an album after only hearing two songs. I don't even know what to call it: Progressive Jazz Trap?

Polysics are legends in the Japanese indie rock scene. They are pretty awesome to see live and also perform lots of covers of western rock songs. My fave has always been their cover of My Sharona.

I agree. They're great. I was listening to them the other day after going down a rathole when I was listening to a mix from people who used to post on the old CMJ board. One was a woman from Montreal whose username was Pollysix. She (along with the band) took the name from the Korg PolySix synth. Sadly she passed away a few years ago. She didn't have much music released but this came out posthumously.

I'd like to post more music from some of the CMJers. They all have stories too, some tragic as well.

On Sundays he would put on a selection of more chilled music while we lay on the couch nursing hangovers. There were 3 albums in particular that got a heavy rotation and really stuck with me.

Things at the house didn't end well and we went our separate ways when the lease was up. Over time I began to miss this music and started to seek out the artists myself. I eventually remembered The Shins and Broken Social Scene but the final band was a mystery. I didn't have the faintest clue what the band name was or the name of one of their songs or even some lyrics. I just knew they were kind of an electronic indie rock band that made me happy. I eventually gave up trying. This was just going to be some mystery album from my youth. Maybe I would re connect with the old room mate one day and could ask him or maybe I wouldn't, either way no big deal. 15 years pass...

My wife recently signed up for Apple Music and added me on at the family rate. This was good. There is more music on here than I know what to do with and I have really been enjoying myself. One day I was browsing and came across of playlist of alternative hits from 2003. I took a look. There were some good ones in here including QOTSA, Radiohead, White Stripes, and Rancid. Even Broken Social Scene and The Shins were in there. So of course I gave it a play and the music was great. I was getting all sorts of good vibes reminiscing about this excellent time in music. Then IT happened. The SONG started playing. It took me a few seconds. I was like this sounds good but I'm sure I have heard this before. Where? When? Then it hit me, this is the mystery band! I found them!

Without further delay this is what I am listening to right now:

Spoiler!
Classic album overall.
My personal favourite: This Place is a Prison

American Music - Violent Femmes

I love listening to music on weekend mornings. Stumbled on this tune, totally forgot how much I used to like it.

A reminder of Peter Gabriel sent me on a youtube journey where I ended up on this classic that everyone forgot. You're welcome.

And along with this comes one of my favorite songs of all time live. Seriously, how cool is David Byrne? Geek chic before it was a thing.
