Shazam takes place on one of the alternate Earths, which feels more like the golden age comics in tone.
There are quite a few crossovers, some of them pretty good stories, but it would probably take a Crisis event to get these characters into the DCEU.
The Marvel family is pretty lighthearted. They even have an Uncle Marvel, who doesn't have powers but acts like he does. They humour him and fly him around, and keep him out of danger by landing him far away to work on 'strategy'.
It's a nice change of pace to the rest of DC.

Is Shazam just like, The Orville to Superman's Star Trek?
Shazam was originally written by a competing comic book company. DC initially got them shut down due to copyrught infringement, but ultimately got the rights to Shazam (the characters real name is Captain Marvel, but that's a while other area of copyright infringement).
Captain Marvel historically had a very kids friendly tone, but was never a parody in any way

This film does take place in the DCEU. There are lots of references to Man of Steel and Easter eggs through out. Black Adam may also appear in SS2.

Shazam also exists in the regular DC universe Earth 0. There's also an alternate version of Earth called Earth 5 that just has Fawcett comics characters.
Shazam has existed in the main DC comic universe, since at least crisis on infinite Earths.
She's acting like there wasn't already a Ghostbusters before her movie. She was the one redoing Ghostbusters, not the original cast from the movie that came out about 30 years ago.
I might understand her reaction if this was a studio decision and this was all a money grab. But this is the ####ing son of the original Director. A kid who has spent his entire life with Ghostbusters being a critical part of his being a filmmaker. A famous filmmaker in his own right. He wants to continue his father’s legacy. And this idiot wants to badmouth him for it?

Yep it comes across as super ignorant with a hint of bitterness.
She still seems to think the reason Ghostbusters (2016) failed was because of sexism. Yes there were a lot of sexist internet trolls panning the movie however the movie failed because it was bad. It was a complete mess that did the opposite of everything that made the original great including the decision to go with ad-libs over well written jokes. The film could have starred any combination of men, women, transgenders and talking dogs and it still would have been bad.

Holy crap, I can't believe she said that. This is not the direction you want to take advocating for women's rights.
I just feel bad for Reitman, hopefully this trolls comment (oh the irony?) doesn't take away from his enjoyment of walking in his fathers foot steps with, what is to him, a life long passion.

I actually liked the first part of the 2016 movie... It just didn't go anywhere. Which is weird because all of the cast members are great at over the top comedy. The script just played it safe for some reason and wasn't all that funny.
The original Ghostbusters was good because it sucked you into an atmosphere. The 2016 one was just kind of there.

blankall already mentioned but another interesting fact is that Shazam aka Captain Marvel is actually one of the first superheros to be adapted to screen.
Here he is in 1941:
I actually don't see the need for a reboot, just stick with Tom Tyler as Shazam.

He is known to most comic readers as Captain Whitebread.
