You're really going out on the limb there with your predictions.

Would you rather I predicted he would win the Norris trophy?

IMO Wideman future possibilities are:

50% - Retirement from NHL
45% - PTO, no contract signed
4% - PTO, signs a contract
1% - 1 yr contract

I don't know if he has children or not, but at this point of his career I doubt he's thinking of extending it by going to Europe. It's not like he would need the money and he wouldn't make much in Europe anyway.

Wouldn't it be awesome to go play for a couple years in Germany or Switzerland after having Wideman's career?

http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/calgary-f...cash-earnings/

According to this, Wideman's career earnings are in excess of $40M. How much fun would it be to play in Europe for 300K with no pressure, no travel, and just have some fun playing hockey again?

Plus, gotta think Wideman's the sort of player Canada is going to be looking at for South Korea. *barfs*

Playing fun hockey in Germany, Switzerland or Sweden, getting paid half a mil (or more), and extending your career a few more years would be a dream come true for many folks.

Hell, I'm thinking about it for software development! Once the kid's done HS and off to college then I'd love an adventure like that.

Sure it could be fun, but how many NHL players in a similar position went and played in Europe? Very few, almost non-existent for North American players.

Hockey players are lame. That sounds like a blast. Get paid to see Europe for a couple years and play hockey where nobody cares that you're not that fast, because you can bomb it from the point and throw hip checks.

He should get some glasses, a funny looking hat, and a red and white striped shirt. Than he should just go blend in with a crowd of people.

If he becomes an NHL ref and got crosschecked by Chris Wideman, would the Wideman effect be compounded?

If Wideman became a ref it would then becom

1/We

Where; We = Wideman effect

Then if he is crosschecked by another Wideman it becomes:

(1/We)^2

It then becomes the inverse Wideman parabolic curve and whomever the wideman effect is bestowed upon will win the Hart trophy.and probably the Stanley Cup too.

I think Wideman will call it career if he doesn't find work in the NHL. He's no spring chicken and his whole life has revolved around hockey. Time for a break from the game. Gotta think that after an overall pretty good career (if you ignore his last couple seasons and a certain incident) and the money he has made, he likely wouldn't have interest in going and playing at a lesser level for much less money.
